  • Patent number: 7139287
Abstract: When a telecommunications network involves use of the Internet Protocol, signalling information is passed by providing between a user and the Internet Protocol an interface protocol (56) which interfaces with one or both of the Transport Control Protocol and the User Datagram Protocol. The interface protocol layer provides selected parts of SS7 facilities.

  • Patent number: 7127248
Abstract: A method of use of a UMTS telecommunications network, comprising utilizing UMTS signalling to indicate changes in an IP sub-network. To register a Mobile Terminal (MT) or to update its location within the network, signalling relevant to the IP domain is transmitted with UMTS signalling in an integrated approach. This reduces the number of signalling messages that are required and minimizes delays.

  • Patent number: 6862455
Abstract: A method of establishing transmissions to a mobile station in a wireless radio communications system where an indication of the radio service requirement is provided to the mobile terminal. A switch receives a signal originating a call. The switch notifies a network accordingly with a paging message. The paging message is supplied to the mobile station. The indication of the radio service requirement is provides as part of, or with, the paging message. Subsequently, only those cells that fulfil the radio service requirement need be measured to determine which one is to be used for the transmission.

  • Patent number: 6668170
Abstract: In a mobile radio network such as the Universal Mobile Telephone System, for handover or relocation of control of a mobile from a serving RNC 22 to a target RNC 24, the TRNC 24 sends a request to the SRNC 22 over the Iur link 27, and the SRNC 22 returns frame timing information. The TRNC 24 synchronizes the user plane with the SRNC for this uplink, so that both controllers are able to send the same packets in synchronizm. The core network (10) can suppress the duplicated packet.

  • Publication number: 20020097693
Abstract: In a call between mobiles 18, 19 located in the same UTRAN 24, and in which at least one mobile has an IMSI, a method of providing local switching in which the RNC 22 sends on an uplink from the first mobile 18 to the CN 10 information related to the first mobile, such as its IMSI, and stores at least a part of that information; when the RNC 22 receives the same information on a downlink from the CN 10 to the second mobile 19, it recognizes that the mobiles are within the same UTRAN 14 and performs local switching. Delay is reduced and the call can be charged at local rates. Instead of the IMSI, data frames from the first mobile 18 can be stored by the RNC 22 for comparison.

  • Publication number: 20020075822
Abstract: A CDMA telecommunications system is disclosed, comprising at least one radio network controller and a plurality of nodes arranged for communication with the network controller, wherein each node is provided with a unique identifier. This identifier can be transmitted with synchronisation messages, to facilitate synchronisation, particularly when a mobile terminal is communicating with several nodes.

  • Publication number: 20010051523
Abstract: User equipment is disclosed which is responsive to instructions from an existing base station, to begin transmissions to a second base station specified in the instructions, without waiting for receipt of down link communications from the second base station.

  • Publication number: 20010036829
Abstract: In the UMTS, handover of a mobile from a serving RNC 52 to a target RNC 54 is achieved by the TRNC 54 sending a handover command signal directly to the SRNC 52 through a Iur link 50. The link may be pre-existing or the TRNC may send a request and a protocol to set up such a link. The core network is no longer involved in handover, and a considerable time saving is achieved.
