  • Patent number: 10080558
Abstract: A device, providing enlargement and preventing collapse, of the pupil of the eye, during an ophthalmic surgical procedure. The device, configured as a continuous or discontinuous ring, comprises plurality of notches at corners and flanges at sides. The ring is formed from a strand of resiliently flexible material and is disposed entirely within a single plane. The notches engage the pupillary margin at different parts, pushing them apart, resulting in sustained enlargement of the pupil. In addition, the device causes bending of the pupillary margin and iris at the notches and above and below the flanges, resulting in a secure engagement. The enlarged pupil created by the ring, allows a wide view of the structures deeper to the pupillary plane, previously obscured due to a small pupil.

  • Publication number: 20160262931
Abstract: A forceps for microsurgery having a tubular shaft with a coaxially placed central rod, an upper shank with a proximate end attached to the tubular shaft and a distal end with an upper jaw attached thereto, and a lower shank with a proximate end attached to the distal central rod and a distal end with a lower jaw attached thereto. The upper and lower jaws both have diameters greater than the outer diameter of the tubular shaft, and may be offset from the upper and lower shanks, respectively, so as to facilitate microsurgical maneuvers such as lifting and grasping thin objects or tissue edges positioned on the surface of an iris or lens during an ophthalmological surgical procedure.

  • Publication number: 20150164685
Abstract: A device, providing enlargement and preventing collapse, of the pupil of the eye, during an ophthalmic surgical procedure. The device made of resiliently flexible material and configured as a ring, comprises plurality of notches at corners and flanges at sides. Notches engage the pupillary margin at different parts, pushing them apart, causing enlargement of the pupil. Consecutive flanges lie above and below the iris and bend the pupillary margin at the notches. The enlarged pupil allows a wide view of the structures deeper to the pupillary plane, previously obscured due to a small pupil. When the ring is manually expandable or self-expandable it is made of a combination of shape retaining and shape memory material that is selected from the group consisting of a self-enlarging material, a self-healing material, a self-reconfiguring programmable material, a biodegradable material, and/or drug-eluting material.
