An example method for providing a user interface includes receiving at a portable electronic device an icon configuration file, installing an icon associated with the configuration file in an icon repository on a portable electronic device, displaying the icon with first content in a user interface on the portable electronic device, receiving second content based on the configuration file, and displaying the icon with the second content in the user interface.

Abstract: A method and communication device for determining contextual information is provided. Textual information is received from at least one of an input device and a communication interface at the communication device. The textual information is processed to automatically extract contextual data embedded in the textual information in response to the receiving. Supplementary contextual data is automatically retrieved based on the contextual data from a remote data source via the communication interface in response to the processing. The supplementary contextual data is automatically rendered at the display device in association with the contextual data in response to receiving the supplementary contextual data.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides for search optimization of searches for establishments by geographic location or area. The geographical locations of one or more establishments are monitored to determine at least one indicator of popularity of the establishment present at the geographical location. A popularity score of the monitored establishment or establishments may be generated from the determined at least one indicator of popularity. In response to a search query, the popularity score of the monitored establishments may be returned by a search engine server as a search result to a user via an electronic communication device.

Abstract: The embodiments described herein provide a computing or communication device and method, as well as a framework implementable on the device for presenting content, such as syndicated content received from a content feed or other content distribution platform, or advertising content received from an ad network or mediation service. The methods and devices described herein provide for contextual rendering of content on the communication device, based on context rules defined either at a point of origin for the content, or at the communication device itself. These context rules may be used, together with context information collected at the device, to determine the appearance and availability of various device functions (such as messaging, setting a calendar appointment, and so forth) while the content is being viewed at the communication device, without requiring the originator of the content to develop interactive or rich media files for rendering the content at the communication device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing context data at a communication device is provided. Icon data associated with an application is rendered at a display device, thereby providing rendered icon data at the display device, the icon data and the application stored at a memory. Context data associated with the application is determined by retrieving at least a first portion of the context data from a calendar database, the context data for rendering within the application when the application is executed by a processor and rendered at the display device. A portion of the rendered icon data is updated such that the rendered icon data comprises at least a subset of the context data. When the rendered icon data is actuated, the application is responsively executed at the processor such that the context data is rendered at the display device within a rendering of the application.
