  • Patent number: 6150576
Abstract: The novel synthetic polyethylene fluids of the present invention are characterized by high viscosity indices (about 94-151 VI), low pour points (about -60 to -10.degree. C.), and a kinematic viscosity of about 6 to 28 cSt KV at 100.degree. C. The product compositions comprise polymers having a molecular weight of from about 300 to 30,000 and a high branching index of 151 to 586 branches per 1000 CH.sub.2 groups, or BI=0.18-0.40, wherein the polymer is substantially free of methyl branches. Highly-branched polyethylene fluids that have less than 5 methyl branches per 1000 CH.sub.2 groups are prepared by polymerizing ethylene in the presence of a catalyst system consisting of [C] and [B], wherein [C] is a catalyst having the empirical formula MX.sub.4 and [B] is a co-catalyst having the empirical formula R.sub.n AlX.sub.3-n, where M is a Group IVB transition metal, X is a halogen anion, R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.

A process for preparing such novel synthetic polyethylene fluids comprises polymerizing ethylene in the presence of a catalyst system, said catalyst system comprising [A] and [B], wherein [A] is a catalyst having the formula MX.sub.5 and [B] is a co-catalyst having the formula R.sub.n AlX.sub.3-n where M is a Group VB, VIB, or VIII transition metal; X is a halogen anion; R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl group; and n is 1-2.

  • Patent number: 5397488
Abstract: The invention provides a composition comprising Formula I as shown below and at least one selected from the group consisting of Formulae II, III, IV, and V as shown below: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are the same or different, and comprise alkyl groups containing no tertiary carbon and having from about 4 to about 15 carbon atoms. The composition of the invention is useful as a lubricant stock. A method for synthesizing the composition is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5362378
Abstract: The use of high silica to alumina ratio large pore zeolites, in combination with a hydrogenation/dehydrogenation component, to convert Fischer-Tropsch heavy end products which may contain paraffins, olefins and oxygenates into low pour point distillates with high cetane number and extra high VI lube is described. The lube can be dewaxed by a conventional solvent process, by a catalytic process, or by increasing the severity of the hydroisomerization step.

  • Patent number: 5210347
Abstract: The 350.degree.-650.degree. F. (177.degree.-343.degree. C.) portion of the product from the oligomerization of light olefin with surface deactivated shape selective medium pore zeolite catalyst particles comprises olefinic hydrocarbons having unique and desirable structures as precursors for high cetane value clean fuels. These oligomers are near linear in structure and contain no aromatics. Following hydrogenation they produce cetane values between 50 and 75. When the near linear olefinic hydrocarbons from surface deactivated zeolite catalyzed oligomerization of light olefins are subjected to ethene metathesis to alpha olefins and oligomerization following the process of Chen et al in U.S. Pat. No. 4,962,249 the overall process reaction product comprises a mixture of a 650.degree. F.+ portion comprising high VI lubricant and a 350.degree.-650.degree. F. portion comprising high cetane clean fuels precursor. Hydrogenation of the 350.degree.-650.degree. F.
