  • Publication number: 20240165065
Abstract: Provided herein are compositions, articles of manufacture, food products, and methods for treating certain conditions, such as fibrotic disease (e.g., asthma). For example, in certain embodiments, provided herein are food products (e.g., that are ketogenic) that contain high levels (e.g., at least 10% by weight of the food product) of capric acid (C10), myristic acid (C14), or combination thereof (e.g., as free fatty acids or as triglycerides). In other embodiments, methods are provided for receiving an order for such a food product, and shipping the food product to a subject with fibrotic disease (e.g., after receiving or verifying prescription information). In some embodiments, methods are provided of administering or providing a composition to a subject such that the subject receives at least 50 grams per day (e.g., 200 grams per day), on multiple days, of capric acid (C10), myristic acid (C14), or combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 9410938
Abstract: The present invention provides methods, kits, and compositions related to testing a sample for the level of a biomarker related to asthma, wherein the biomarker is selected from: taurine, maltose, maltotriose, adenosine 5?-monophosphate, phosphoethanolamine, glycerophosphorylcholine, arachidonate, heptanoate, pelargonate, and nicotinamide. In certain embodiments, the level of the biomarker is used to identify therapy effective for treating asthma. In other embodiments, the level of the biomarker is used to identify the presence, severity, or risk of exacerbation of asthma. In further embodiments, the level of the biomarker is used to monitor the response to on-going therapy (e.g., adjust the dosage of the asthma therapy).

  • Publication number: 20110165594
Abstract: Provided herein are diagnostic and prognostic methods, diagnostic and prognositic markers, and methods for evaluating anti-inflammatory agents or drugs in subjects with asthma and/or an analogous disease associated with high oxidative and nitrative stress at the disease site. In certain embodiments, the methods comprise a step of assaying for decreased levels of superoxide dismutase activity in the blood, serum, or plasma of the subject. In certain embodiments, the methods comprise a step of assaying for elevated levels of one or more oxidatively-modified SOD isoforms or species in the blood, serum or plasma of the subject. Also provided are diagnostic kits for use in the present invention. In certain embodiments, such kits comprise at least one binding reagent that specifically binds to at least one oxidatively-modified SOD species.
