  • Patent number: 8473193
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for utilizing a selectable location marker for relational display of point of interest entries. In one embodiment, the method includes prompting selection of a point of interest location marker on a navigation device, and displaying selectable point of interest entries on the navigation device in an order based upon a location related to a selected point of interest location marker and a relative location of each of the selectable point of interest entries.

  • Patent number: 8407003
Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, an end-user can input a correction to a map error, directly on the device. The device is then able to use the correction without external processing of the correction. Hence, it is no longer necessary for an end-user to simply report errors to the map vendor over a web link, then wait for that map vendor to verify the error, update its maps and finally supply the end-user with updates—a cycle that can take months and sometimes years to complete. Instead, the navigation device can use the correction immediately. End-users can also share corrections with other end-users and also with a shared remote server that aggregates, validates and distributes corrections.

  • Patent number: 8386166
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the manner in which a navigation device should produce sounds from data is described. One embodiment, includes a device for synthesizing sounds from digital sound files, and re-producing pre-recorded sounds from a database of text-based indicators. The invention can be further capable of repeatedly determining physical conditions, e.g. current GPS location, which are compared to reference values such that a positive comparison gives rise to an event requiring a sound to be produced. The method includes a user selection of what events or physical conditions trigger a sound, and the type of sound to be audibly delivered which can be digitally synthesize sounds or pre-recorded sounds stored on the device or a combination of the two.

  • Publication number: 20100100317
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the manner in which a processor-enabled device should producing sounds from data is described. In at least one embodiment, the device includes a first device for synthesizing sounds digitally, and re-producing pre-recorded sounds, a second device for audible delivery thereof, memory in which is stored a database of a plurality data at least some of which is in the form of text-based indicators, and one or more pre-recorded sounds, a data transfer device by which the data is transferred between the processor of the device and the memory, and operating system software which controls the processing and flow of data between a processor and the memory, and whether the sounds are audibly reproduced. In accordance with at least one embodiment of the invention, the device is further capable of repeatedly determining one or more physical conditions, e.g.

  • Publication number: 20090204932
Abstract: A method for formally verifying the equivalence of an architecture description with an implementation description. The method comprises the steps of reading an implementation description, reading an architecture description, demonstrating that during execution of a same program with same initial values an architecture sequence of data transfers described by the architecture description is mappable to an implementation sequence of data transfers implemented by the implementation description, such that the mapping is bijective and ensures that the temporal order of the architecture sequence of data transfers corresponds to the temporal order of the implementation sequence of data transfers, and outputting a result of the verification of the equivalence of the architecture description with the implementation description.

  • Publication number: 20080046176
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for providing preferences during route travel calculation on a navigation device. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a travel destination input into a navigation device; and calculating a travel route to the input travel destination, potential turns in one direction incurring a relatively higher penalty during travel route calculation than potential turns in an opposite direction. In another embodiment, the method includes receiving a travel destination input to a navigation device; and calculating a travel route to the received travel destination, the travel route calculation including a relative preference of potential turns in one direction over potential turns in an opposite direction.
