  • Patent number: 7246820
Abstract: An annular airbag is disclosed, of the type where the center piece (12) of the steering wheel cover (11) (mostly embodied as the emblem of the vehicle producer) remains in place during the unfolding process. In order to prevent a vehicle occupant impacting the hole arising above the center piece with an inflated airbag, the tubular region (17) of the airbag above the center piece is embodied such that the cross-sectional area thereof in the inflated state reduces in the direction of the upper plate of the airbag from the center piece (12). The above is achieved, for example, by means of a special forming of the tubular region, by provision of pockets (21) and/or folds (31), the use of special materials, a special fixing of the airbag to the airbag module (9), or the fitting of tension straps (50).

  • Publication number: 20060125220
Abstract: The invention relates to an airbag module, especially a passenger airbag module, comprising a gas generator arranged in a module housing. The aim of the invention is to create an airbag module which provides the gas bag with a sufficient retaining capacity and enables a load-reducing gas bag deployment which can be variably influenced. According to the invention, the module housing (1) comprises a continuous gas outlet (6) on at least one side in the region of a gas bag (4) to be deployed, and at least one section (7) extending into the gas bag (4) is arranged in the region of the gas outlet. Alternatively, the section (11) can be arranged directly above the gas outlet (6a; 6b).

  • Patent number: 6467805
Abstract: In an embodiment of the present invention, a device for influencing the flow of the gas into a gas bag of an airbag module with an inflating device and a gas bag, wherein at least one component part is provided between the inflating device and the gas bag. The component part is deformable under the pressure of the gas emerging from the inflating device and forms or releases at least one opening in the predetermined direction. The component part has a flap-like section which is defined at least in part by surrounding perforations in the component part, and between the component part and the flap-like section there are overlapping slits between which at least one retaining tab is formed which connects the component part to the flap-like section.

  • Patent number: 6361073
Abstract: An airbag module for a front includes an airbag made of a single, cut-out piece, which on either side of a symmetry axis (1) has an airbag section of identical shape and size. The airbag is arranged in the airbag module so that after the airbag has unfolded following a crash, the seam joining the curved edges (2a, 2b) of the airbag section (2, 3) extends away from the passenger along an at least substantially vertical plane, starting from a seamless area of the airbag and that the seamless area of the airbag, whose length is determined by the symmetry axis (1), faces toward the passenger. In addition, the airbag is folded only once along a symmetry axis (1). A further section (4, 5) is joined to each airbag section (2, 3) so as to form a space for receiving a diffuser.
