Abstract: The present invention relates to a process wherein waste material derived from human, animal and industrial areas is processed to utilize the energy resources present in the solid phase and, optionally, to recover important nutritional elements as well as toxic heavy metals. In particular, there is provided a process for releasing plant nutritional elements and utilising toxic metals and carbon energy resources present in such waste, comprising treating the waste with one or more enzymes as biological catalysts.
