  • Patent number: 5596498
Abstract: A hydraulic steering arrangement for vehicles is proposed, with a steering motor, a flow amplifier in fluid connection therewith, which amplifies a fluid flow measured by a steering measuring device, at least one sensor, which determines a performance characteristic of the vehicle, and a control device, which changes the amount of fluid supplied to the steering motor in dependence on an output signal of the sensor. In a steering arrangement of that kind, it is intended to correct or adapt the steering behavior to the operational status of the vehicle using simple means. For that purpose, the control device changes the amplification factor of the flow amplifier.

  • Patent number: 5390693
Abstract: A flow amplifier (1) with an inlet (4) and an outlet (5) is provided, between which a first branch (6), through which a flow of a fluid to be amplified is flowing, with a first throttling device (8), the throttle resistance of which is adjusted in dependence on the pressure across and by the flow rate through the first throttling device, and a second branch (7) with a second throttling device (11), the throttle resistance of which is adjusted in dependence on the throttle resistance of the first throttling device. In a flow amplifier of that kind, the amplification factor is intended to be made independently of pressure losses in the generation of the flow to be amplified. For that purpose, at least one pressure-divider (14, 15; 17, 18) with a central take-off point (16; 19) is provided, which is supplied by a pressure difference between inlet (4) and outlet (5), the pressure at the central take-off point (15, 19) controlling the flow rate through the second throttling device (11).

  • Patent number: 5337778
Abstract: A pressure control valve of the type having pump, tank and load-sensing connections used in conjunction with one or more proportional type valves. In this type of system a load-sensing signal is tapped off from the output side of the proportional valves and conveyed to the load-sensing connection of the pressure control valve. A pressure control valve of the type herein has load-sensing and pressure chambers at opposite ends thereof with a slide valve therebetween which is spring biased towards the pressure chamber and controls the internal flow from the pump connection to the tank connection. The slide valve has an auxiliary change-over type valve which selectively connects the pressure chamber to the pump and load-sensing connections in response to a pressure differential between the pump and load-sensing connections to achieve a pressure balance between the load-sensing chamber and the pressure chamber.

  • Patent number: 5285867
Abstract: The handwheel of a vehicle is connected to a handwheel shaft which in turn is connected through a load torque isolating device (overrunning clutch) that acts in either of the two directions of rotation and is connected to a steering shaft that controls a hydraulic arrangement. The hydraulic arrangement controls a steering motor that in turn controls the direction of turning of the vehicle. A second motor is drivingly connected to the overrunning clutch to rotate the steering shaft when the second motor is operated but when the steering is controlled by the handwheel, movement of the second motor is prevented. The second motor is operable from a location remote from the vehicle. The overrunning clutch includes a hub connected to the steering shaft and is movable by the handwheel shaft, the hub being wedgable against the clutch housing for being driven by the second motor by two jamming rollers that each acts in one direction of rotation and can be released by rotating the handwheel shaft.

  • Patent number: 5275251
Abstract: A hydraulic steering system having apparatus for compensating for steering angle error. On displacement of a steering handwheel, the steering handwheel angle, the steering motor angle and the steering handwheel speed are ascertained. The fluid flow between a steering control device and a steering motor is changed via auxiliary flow paths in dependence on the steering angle error. At every steering handwheel speed and every steering angle error, the change of the fluid flow is effected in dependence on the steering handwheel speed and the steering angle error. A multiplier multiplies the outputs of a difference-generating means and a differentiator together, the output of the multiplier being connected by way of a proportional element to a valve control device connected to pass signals to a valve arrangement which controls the auxiliary flow paths.

  • Patent number: 5257177
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling the movement of hydraulically movable work equipment that is arranged at the end of a length-adjustable and pivotable arm, along a substantially rectilinear path of movement, the work equipment being moved with the assistance of hydraulic drive units that act on the arm in dependence on input control signals that determine the path of movement. Even in the case of non-ideal control loops for the control of the drive units, it is intended that the work equipment be moved along a desired path. For that purpose, starting from an actual position of the work equipment, a sequence of desired positions in the path of movement is ascertained and the work equipment is moved from an actual position to the next desired position, the movement into the next position not being initiated until the work equipment is located in a predetermined tolerance band about the preceding position.

  • Patent number: 5165496
Abstract: A control valve is opened (moved from its neutral position) by rotation of a steering wheel to conduct fluid from a pump to a steering meter device that controls the amount of fluid fed to a steering motor arrangement. When the steering motor piston has been displaced by a distance corresponding to the angle of rotation of the steering wheel, the control valve is moved by the steering meter device from its opened condition to its neutral position. A pilot valve controlled actuating device is provided to short circuit the steering meter device to permit continued fluid flow from the pump to the steering motor device and provide a mechanical braking force to the meter device to block rotation thereof and thereby the movement of the control valve to its neutral position. The braking mechanism is resiliently urged to a non-braking position.

  • Patent number: 4972761
Abstract: A hydraulic safety brake valve arrangement for a motor controlled by a directional control valve. The safety brake valve arrangement has a main valve closing the load lowering conduit in a rest position. Pump pressure opens the main valve to throttle exhausted fluid and at the same time throttle fluid through the supply conduit to the opposed motor chamber. A compensating valve is placed in series with the main valve throttle for the loaded side of the motor. Motor speed is thereby controlled independent of the external loading on the motor.

  • Patent number: 4955194
Abstract: A damping arrangement for damping the oscillations of valves which are controlled by pressure fluid and the control pressure conduits of which contain a throttle. A characteristic is that initial oscillations can be rapidly stabilized independently of the operating temperature of the pressure fluid. This is accomplished by the throttle having a throttle gap of which the height varies oppositely to the temperature of the pressure fluid so as to compensate fully or partially for changes in the hydraulic resistance that are occasioned by the temperature. The throttle gap is mostly traversed by laminar flow and consequently there is a high hydraulic throttling resistance even at low speeds of flow. The throttle is therefore also adapted effectively to damp small oscillations of the valve element so that the initial oscillations are rapidly stabilized.

  • Patent number: 4685295
Abstract: The invention relates to a control unit for a hydraulically operated consumer of the type which is used for operating heavily intermittently and loaded machines such as cranes. The consumer is fed in accordance with a load sensing function with pressurized fluid which depends on the opening of the supply valve but is independent of load pressure variations. The invention is directed to minimizing the lagging of the adjustments to different loading conditions to provide more rapid stabilization. This is done by providing the signal conduit with three branches between the inlet and outlet lines to form a pressure dividing arrangement in which the signal pressure is no longer equal to the load pressure but is composed of parts of the load pressure and the output of a pressure regulating valve in the inlet line of the unit. Upon fluctuation in the load the amount of flow is not kept constant but instead decreases with an increasing load and increases with a drop in the load.
