  • Patent number: 9752485
Abstract: An exhaust gas energy recovery system includes a power plant and a volumetric fluid expander. The power plant has an exhaust gas outlet for conveying an exhaust gas stream at a first pressure. The volumetric fluid expander includes a housing and an output shaft. The housing has an inlet and an outlet, and the housing inlet is in fluid communication with the exhaust gas outlet. The volumetric fluid expander generates useful work at the output shaft by expanding the exhaust gas stream to a second pressure lower than the first pressure generally without reducing the volume of the exhaust stream as the exhaust stream moves from the housing inlet to the outlet.

  • Publication number: 20150308296
Abstract: An exhaust gas energy recovery system includes an internal combustion engine, a volumetric fluid expander, and a water injection mechanism. The internal combustion engine includes an air inlet, at least one cylinder, and an exhaust gas outlet for conveying an exhaust gas stream at a first pressure. The volumetric fluid expander generates useful work at an output shaft by expanding the exhaust gas stream to a second pressure lower than the first pressure as the exhaust gas stream moves through the volumetric fluid expander. The water injection mechanism injects water into the system at a location between the air inlet of the engine and the expander to increase the volume of the exhaust received by the expander for increased power output at the expander.

  • Patent number: 8533674
Abstract: Method, system, apparatus, and computer program and computer program product provide on-demand, scalable computational resources to application providers over a distributed network and system. Resources are made available based on demand for applications. Application providers are charged fees based on the amount of resources utilized to satisfy the needs of the application. In providing compute resources, method and apparatus is capable of rapidly activating a plurality of instances of the applications as demand increases and to halt instances as demand drops. Application providers are charged based on metered amount of computational resources utilized in processing their applications. Application providers access the network to distribute applications onto network to utilize distributed compute resources for processing of the applications. Application providers are further capable of monitoring, updating and replacing distributed applications.

  • Patent number: 7328259
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for managing a plurality of applications comprising application instances running on a plurality of computer servers. A system for managing application includes an application scheduler. The application scheduler receives at least one policy for managing the applications over the computer servers. The application scheduler also receives usage information indicating performance of the applications and the computer servers. The application scheduler then applies the at least one policy to the usage information to determine whether policy violations exist. The application scheduler then determines and executes a modification action of the applications in response to the policy violation.

  • Patent number: 6813241
Abstract: A network architecture for use in a data traffic network that includes a plurality of nodes and a plurality of data links coupling the nodes. The network architecture includes a working data link(220) that forms a signal pathway between a first router (200) and a second router (210) within the network. A protection data link(255) is likewise provided and forms a second signal pathway. The routers (200, 210) include both working data ports (312) and protection data ports (314) with each port including associated transmit and receive terminals. A combination of line splitting devices (250), line selection devices (260) and switch arrays (430, 435) are used to switch the flow of traffic data from the working data link (220) to the protection data link (255) or a protection channel (450) as is appropriate.

  • Patent number: 5857112
Abstract: The present invention provides a system of hardware and software that combine to efficiently integrate the various requirements for system performance and system reliability in a RAID system. A user of the present invention is able to select from a range of system performance and reliability configurations, independently of each other. From user specifications, the present invention initially constructs a user space which must be mapped onto the physical storage space in the array of disk drives. The present invention preserves the orthogonality of performance and reliability concepts through a series of mappings that relate to these concepts independently as it transforms user space into the physical space of the disk array.
