Publication number: 20120176902Abstract: Both a system and method are provided for dynamically balancing a maximum number of active remote device users that can be serviced between first and second base stations transmitting data frames in a radio communication system when the carriers of the first and second base stations operate at different radio frequency bandwidths X and Y respectively, and Y is substantially larger than X. The system includes a system control circuit that controls the number of subchannels in the uplink control channel region of the data frames transmitted by the first base station, and a traffic monitoring circuit that monitors both an uplink load and a number of active wireless device users within broadcast coverage of said first base station. The system control circuit dynamically increases the radio resources in the uplink control channel region of the frames transmitted by the first base station.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 6, 2011Publication date: July 12, 2012Applicant: CLEAR WIRELESS LLCInventors: Esmael Dinan, Jong-Hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Pawar, Krishna Sitaram

Patent number: 8185146Abstract: A first wireless device associated with a first profile is communicated with using a first transmitted power. A second wireless device associated with a second profile is communicated with using a second transmitted power. A third transmitted power is determined. The third transmitted power is associated with the first wireless device receiving data using a target modulation and coding scheme. A maximum transmitted power is determined to be exceeded if the third transmitted power is used to communicate with the first wireless device. The second wireless device is communicated with using a fourth transmitted power. The fourth transmitted power allows the third transmitted power to be used to communicate with the first wireless device without exceeding the maximum transmitted power.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2009Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Krishna D. Patent number: 8130728Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and system for transmitting coding descriptor information that can be implemented in a WiMAX communication network. The method comprises (a) dividing the coding descriptor information into a first set and a second set of coding descriptor information, wherein the first set comprises coding descriptor information that is used in initial ranging; (b) determining a repetition frequency at which to periodically transmit the first set of coding descriptor information; (c) periodically transmitting the first set of coding descriptor information at the determined repetition frequency; (d) detecting a triggering event, wherein the triggering event comprises receipt of a message from an access terminal; and (e) in response to detecting the triggering event, transmitting the second set of coding descriptor information.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2008Date of Patent: March 6, 2012Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Esmail Dinan, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna Sitaram, Jong-hak Jung

Patent number: 8121090Abstract: A mobile communication device wirelessly transfers user communications to a first wireless base station. The mobile communication device identifies a second wireless base station that has sufficient performance characteristics for wireless communication with the mobile communication device and that has a higher communication priority than the first wireless base station. In response, the mobile communication device initiates a hand-off from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station. In response to the hand-off, the mobile communication device stops the wireless transfer of the user communications to the first wireless base station and wirelessly transfers additional user communications to the second wireless base station.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2008Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Jong-hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna D. Publication number: 20110317553Abstract: A method of assigning parameter values to transceivers in a wireless communication network. Each of the parameter values assigned determines at least in part how a plurality of subcarriers are organized into a plurality of sub-channels. In particular embodiments, the method assigns the parameter values to the transceivers based on correlations between the sub-channels determined by the parameter values, distances between the transceivers, and loads experienced by the transceivers. After the parameter values are assigned to the transceivers, each of the transceivers is configured to transmit on the sub-channels determined at least in part by the parameter value assigned to the transceiver.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2010Publication date: December 29, 2011Applicant: CLEAR WIRELESS LLCInventors: Esmail Dinan, Jong-Hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Pawar, Krishna Sitaram

Patent number: 8068786Abstract: A method for identifying time of flight interference in a wireless communication network is provided. The method includes detecting interference during a first uplink sub-frame at an interference destination base station, and transmitting a time of flight interference source detection request to a gateway, where the time of flight interference source detection request comprises a time of flight interference period. The method also includes determining one or more base stations in the vicinity of the interference destination base station, where the one or more base stations in the vicinity of the interference destination base station operate at a same frequency as the interference destination base station.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2009Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Swati Tiwari, Krishna D. Patent number: 8068838Abstract: A mobile communication device wirelessly transfers user communications to a first wireless base station. The mobile communication device determines a first metric based on a load indicator for the first base station. The mobile communication device identifies a second wireless base station and determines a second metric based on a load indicator for the second base station. If the second metric is superior to the first metric, the mobile communication device determines if the second base station has sufficient performance characteristics for communication with the device. If the performance is sufficient, the mobile communication device initiates a hand-off from the first base station to the second base station. The mobile communication device may use additional factors to determine the first and second metrics.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2008Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Jong-hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna D. Patent number: 8031665Abstract: A wireless communication system allocates connection identifiers into a first group and a second group. The system associates sectors or base stations with a reservation zone, and associates the reservation zone with the first group of connection identifiers. The system associates the first group of connection identifiers with a quality-of-service level. In response to determining that a user has the quality-of-service level, the system reserves at least one of the connection identifiers in the first group for the user and uses the reserved connection identifier to communicate with the first user in all of the sectors or base stations associated with the reservation zone.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2008Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Jong-hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna D. Publication number: 20110189997Abstract: Systems and methods of operating multimode 3G/4G communications devices in an overlapping 3G/4G coverage area (e.g., WiMAX or LTE/CDMA-EvDO) include determining a loading condition of the 3G and 4G base stations. If the 3G and 4G base stations are lightly loaded, one or more 4G Channel Quality Indicators (CQI) are compared with one or more corresponding 3G Data Rate Control (DRC) indices to determine which of the 3G and 4G networks allows a higher data throughput. The dual mode communications device is handed off to a 4G base station associated with the 4G coverage if the 4G network allows the higher data throughput; otherwise, the dual mode communications device is handed off to a 3G base station. User priorities, application categories, and/or MIMO and diversity modes may be used to determine handoff if the base stations are more than lightly loaded.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2010Publication date: August 4, 2011Applicant: CLEAR WIRELESS, LLCInventors: Swati TIWARI, Hemanth Balaji PAWAR, Esmail H.
