    Abstract: An amine-loaded carrier is loaded with silyl amine groups, and the amine loaded carrier includes a non-porous silica substrate dehydrated or dehydroxylated at a first temperature and the silyl amine groups attached to the dehydrated, non-porous silica substrate at a second temperature, different from the first temperature, so that covalent bonds are formed between a surface of the non-porous silica substrate and the silyl amine groups. The covalent bonds are formed due to a chemisorption process, and the covalent bonds are stronger than van der Waals bonds formed due to a physisorption process.
