  • Patent number: 7587216
Abstract: The invention concerns a method (300) and communications unit (112) for selective receipt of group calls. The method can include the steps of—at a communications unit—receiving (314) a request to participate in a group call having at least one identification and having a plurality of participating members, comparing (316) the identification associated with the group call with a set of predefined blocking configurations and selectively blocking (318) the request to participate in the group call based on the comparison of the identification associated with the group call with the set of predefined blocking configurations.

  • Patent number: 7492885
Abstract: A system and method of retrieving dispatch call information from a dedicated database by using interconnect call information. Interconnect call information from an interconnect communication system is obtained. The information identifies a target dispatch subscriber unit in a dispatch communication system. A request is received from a source dispatch subscriber unit. The request includes the interconnect call information. The interconnect call information identifying the target dispatch subscriber unit is extracted from the request. The interconnect call information of the target dispatch subscriber is related to unique dispatch call connection information of the target dispatch subscriber in a dedicated database. The unique dispatch call connection information concerning the target dispatch subscriber unit from the dedicated database in the dispatch communication system is retrieved using the extracted interconnect call information from the request.

  • Publication number: 20080108358
Abstract: A subscriber unit (107) operates in a communication system (100) with at least two servers (102, 103). The subscriber unit (107) receives a plurality of received signal samples that each include a color code value (304) identifying on cell server of a plurality of cell servers transmitting signals in a coverage area. The subscriber unit (107) then determines the best received color code value based on a quality/error metric derived from the received color codes associated with the received signal samples.

  • Publication number: 20070106734
Abstract: A system (100) comprising a server (120) and a method (300) for limiting proliferation of unwanted electronic messages. The server can receive a notification from a first user identifying a first electronic message (125) as Spam and compare parameters associated with the first electronic message against Spam criteria. Responsive to the parameters meeting the Spam criteria, other instances of the first electronic message can be blocked from being sent to other users and a credit notification (135) for an account of the first user can be generated. A second user from whom the Spam originated can be added to a blocked sender list of the first user. Responsive to identifying a second electronic message generated from the first user to the second user, a correction charge notification can be generated for the account of the first user.

  • Publication number: 20070105596
Abstract: A method, wireless device and system retrieve and display caller information in real time by enabling a local data ID send feature on a calling wireless device (102), transmitting identification information (304) associated with the calling wireless device (102) and stored locally on the calling wireless device (102) to a receiving wireless device (104), receiving the identification information (304) at the receiving wireless device (104), and displaying the identification information (304) associated with the calling wireless device (102) on the receiving wireless device (104). The identification information contains a name, a phone number, and/or a direct connection ID. The local data ID send feature can be enabled for all calls initiated by the calling wireless device (102) or enabled for a single call basis.

  • Publication number: 20070049257
Abstract: A selective call radio (100) has a radio frequency transceiver (102), and a processor (104) for controlling operations of the transceiver. The processor is programmed to cause (202) the transceiver to receive a third party call while the SCR is actively engaged in an end user call, and respond (203) to the third party call according to a call response profile defined by an end user of the SCR.

  • Patent number: 7164930
Abstract: A mobile communication device (214) in a communication system (200) initiates a call over the fixed equipment network of the communication system to another mobile communication device (216). If the two mobile communication devices are within sufficient proximity to each other, they may switch to a direct mode of communication. (318). The direct mode and network mode of communication are in different frequency bands using different air interface protocols.

  • Publication number: 20050054375
Abstract: A method of managing a receiver. The method (300) includes the steps of selectively converting (326) a first communications channel (168) to a second communications channel (170), transmitting (328) data over the second communications channel (170) to a communications unit (128, 130) in which the data includes an information header (174) and reading (330) at least a portion of the information header (174) transmitted over the second communications channel (170). The method (300) can also include the step of selectively deactivating (332) a receiver (148, 158) of the communications unit (128, 130) in response to the reading step (330).

  • Publication number: 20050026598
Abstract: A method (300) for notifying callers. The method (300) can include the steps of assigning (322) a first communications channel (148) to a set of callers (137), temporarily converting (324) the first communications channel (148) to a second communications channel (150) when the first communications channel (148) is released and transmitting (336) a message to at least one of the set of callers (137) over the second communications channel (150). In one arrangement, the first communications channel (148) can be converted to the second communications channel (150) for the shorter duration of a predetermined amount of time and a time until the first communications channel (148) is no longer released.
