  • Patent number: 9559752
Abstract: A network device may include a plug that couples with a socket to couple the network device to a PLC network. A position of the plug may be interchanged when the plug is coupled with the socket. In one example, the network device may determine a coupling orientation of the plug that indicates the position of the plug with respect to the socket. The plug includes a first plug terminal, a second plug terminal, a first ground plug terminal, and a second ground plug terminal. The network device may select a signal polarity for the plug based, at least in part, on the coupling orientation. The signal polarity indicates over which of the plug terminals data is to be transmitted for communication over the PLC network.

  • Patent number: 9413601
Abstract: A first network device determines whether a first reference code included in at least a first transmission on a communication channel is associated with a code configured in the first network device. The communication channel is shared among a plurality of communication networks and the first reference code is associated with a first communication network of the plurality of communication networks. The first network device joins the first communication network associated with the first reference code in response to determining the first reference code is associated with the code configured in the first network device. The first network device communicates with a second network device in the first communication network using the code configured in the first network device.

  • Patent number: 9325377
Abstract: A powerline communication adapter may couple powerline communication signals between a network device and a powerline communication network. The powerline communication adapter may comprise of a first electrical connector including an electrical socket and a second electrical connector including an electrical plug. The powerline communication adapter may include a coupling unit coupled between the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector. • Patent number: 8964819
Abstract: An asymmetric mixed-mode transceiver may determine to communicate with a destination powerline communication device. The asymmetric mixed-mode transceiver may determine whether an operational mode associated with the destination powerline communication device is a multiple-output multiple-input (MIMO) mode or a single-output single-input (SISO) mode. The asymmetric mixed-mode transceiver may dynamically change its operational mode to either the MIMO mode or the SISO mode to match the operational mode of the destination powerline communication device. The asymmetric mixed-mode transceiver may receive a communication from a source powerline communication device. The asymmetric mixed-mode transceiver may determine whether an operational mode associated with the source powerline communication device is the MIMO mode or the SISO mode. The asymmetric mixed-mode transceiver may dynamically change its operational mode to match the operational mode of the source powerline communication device.

  • Patent number: 8520696
Abstract: Powerline communication networks can be subject to burst interference resulting in loss of throughput and data corruption. A transmitting network device and a receiving network device of a powerline communication network can be configured to select a best performing powerline terminal coupling configuration for powerline communications. The transmitting network device can determine performance measurements associated with each of a plurality of powerline communication channels. The transmitting network device can select a best performing powerline communication channel based on the performance measurements, and can provide an indication of the best performing powerline communication channel to the receiving network device. The transmitting and the receiving network devices can each configure their respective terminal connections to switch to the best performing powerline communication channel.

  • Patent number: 8483741
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for configuring a station coupled to a communication medium. Received signal powers at the station of signals transmitted from a plurality of other stations coupled to the communication medium are measured. A transmit power level of the station, used for determining powers of signals transmitted from the station, is determined based at least in part upon the received signal powers. A detection threshold of the station, used for determining which received signals to accept for further processing and which received signals to ignore, is determined based at least in part upon the received signal powers.
