Publication number: 20250078238Abstract: Systems and methods for inspecting optical fibers are provided. A method, according to one implementation, includes steps of obtaining an image of an end-face of an optical fiber; analyzing the image with a pre-trained neural network model to classify pixels therein as any of a defect, a scratch, or clean; aggregating the pixels based on proximity to obtain defect segments or scratch segments; characterizing these defect segments and scratch segments based on but not limited to size and location, and providing an output including any of the defect segments or scratch segments.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 2024Publication date: March 6, 2025Applicant: EXFO Inc.Inventors: Jonathan PLANTE, Sylvain NADEAU, Justin M. Patent number: 11313227Abstract: A device that allows for the sequential operations of hole drilling, resin and catalyst insertion and rod insertion in a single machine is provided. The drilling part uses a regular mining drilling machine that is fitted onto the device. Once the hole is drilled, a pipe is inserted into the hole. There are two possible versions of the pipe, a single pipe configured to work with an air cannon shooting resin tubes and a co-joined double pipe to inject resin and a catalyst in separate co-joined pipes so as to emerge unmixed at the end of the pipes. The next step consists in screwing in the rod into the hole, the twisting motion mixes resin and catalyst and in a matter of seconds, the rod is fully inserted and the chemical reaction has started. Because of the speed and accuracy of insertion and the thoroughness of mixing, more catalyst than usual can be used for a faster hardening of the resin, which secures the rod much better and faster.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2019Date of Patent: April 26, 2022Inventor: Sylvain Plante

Publication number: 20160236695Abstract: A raise climber carrier for supporting and transporting a raise climber includes a conveyance support assembly. The conveyance support assembly includes a base frame and an elevating frame secured to the base frame via a mechanical linkage assembly for controlled elevation of the raise climber. A raise climber support assembly is mounted and supported upon the elevating frame for deployment of the raise climber. The conveyance support assembly also includes an intake and outlet for air and an intake and outlet for water, as well as a hose assembly including a hose reel used to carry, dispense and retract a pressured air hose.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2015Publication date: August 18, 2016Inventor: Sylvain Plante

Publication number: 20130197908Abstract: Systems and methods for speech processing in telecommunication networks are described. In some embodiments, a method may include receiving speech transmitted over a network, causing the speech to be converted to text, and identifying the speech as predetermined speech in response to the text matching a stored text associated with the predetermined speech. The stored text may have been obtained, for example, by subjecting the predetermined speech to a network impairment condition. The method may further include identifying terms within the text that match terms within the stored text (e.g., despite not being identical to each other), calculating a score between the text and the stored text, and determining that the text matches the stored text in response to the score meeting a threshold value. In some cases, the method may also identify one of a plurality of speeches based on a selected one of a plurality of stored texts.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 16, 2012Publication date: August 1, 2013Applicant: TEKTRONIX, INC.Inventors: Jihao Zhong, Sylvain Plante, Chunchun Jonina Chan, Jiping Xie

Patent number: 7642478Abstract: A device for controlling a circuit-breaker intended for opening and closing this electric power cut-off device comprising a mobile contact, this control device comprising a motor with a rotary output shaft and being connected to power supply means and actuating means transforming the output displacement of the motor into a displacement of the contact, this device also comprising a mechanical spring arrangement involved in opening and closing the contact. The actuation means include a set of jointed elements providing the connection of the rotary shaft and of the ring, and, in the closed position of the contact, the set of jointed elements is near a dead centre position, a so-called open dead centre, the opening spring being only able to drive it towards the open position upon moving past this dead centre during opening.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2005Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: Areva T&D SAInventors: Eric Courbon, Jean-Pierre Dupraz, Serge Poullain, Sylvain Plante, Jean-Luc Thomas, Ernst Suter, Robert Luscher

Publication number: 20070163869Abstract: The invention relates to a device for controlling a circuit-breaker intended for opening and closing this electric power cut-off device comprising a mobile contact, this control device comprising a motor (3) with a rotary output shaft (12) and being connected to power supply means (4-9) and actuating means transforming the output displacement of the motor into a displacement of the contact, this device also comprising a mechanical spring arrangement involved in opening and closing the contact. According to the invention, the actuation means include a set of jointed elements providing the connection of the rotary shaft and of the ring, and, in the closed position of the contact, the set of jointed elements is near a dead centre position, a so-called open dead centre, the opening spring (15) being only able to drive it towards the open position upon moving past this dead centre during opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 20, 2005Publication date: July 19, 2007Applicant: AREVA T&D SAInventors: Eric Courbon, Jean-Pierre Dupraz, Serge Poullain, Sylvain Plante, Jean-Luc Thomas, Ernst Suter, Robert Luscher

Patent number: 7209605Abstract: The present invention concerns an optical sensor located on a preferred azimuthal portion of the side of an optical fiber. An optical fiber having two opposite ends, a core and a cladding and at least one sensing area is disclosed. Each of the sensing areas is located between the two opposite ends and each has a longitudinal, a radial and an azimuthal portion of the fiber that has been removed and replaced by a sensing material. The sensing collected light is thus representative of a parameter to be measured, such as temperature. Placing the sensing material in a lateral side portion of the fiber increases the sensitivity of the sensor, particularly when it comes to contact temperature measurement in vivo.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2003Date of Patent: April 24, 2007Assignee: Institut National d'OptiqueInventors: Daniel Cantin, Alain Cournoyer, Marc Lévesque, Julie Fréchette, Sylvain Plante

Patent number: 6520987Abstract: An intravascular flexible permanent prosthesis (stent) for implantation in a body lumen such as an artery, consists of a plurality of radially expandable and deformable thin-walled ring elements aligned in a common longitudinal axis, and held together by interconnecting links so as to limit longitudinal expansion or contraction during radial deployment. The stent is delivered and expanded within a blood vessel by an angioplasty balloon catheter. The ring elements are formed of a series of hexagonal components or inverted hexagonal components, with elements of a series of hexagonal components preferably alternating with elements formed of a series of inverted hexagonal components. Each point of adjacent ring elements is adjoined by a pair of diametrically opposed links, whilst the succeeding pair of adjacent ring elements is adjoined by a pair of links which are diametrically opposed and located at an angle of 90° to the previous pair of links.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1999Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignee: Symbiotech Medical, INCInventor: Sylvain Plante
