  • Patent number: 5787857
Abstract: A Diesel engine is started as a direct fuel injected engine with ignition accomplished by spraying fuel onto a hot wire electrode that is made hot as part of a spark plug activated by an enhanced ignition system. The fuel injector's normally atomized spray pattern is changed to a concentrated fuel sprayed on to the hot wire electrode resulting in ignition of the sprayed fuel. Upon the engine reaching proper temperature, the injector's restrictor is removed, the spark plug is deactivated, and the engine reverts to Diesel operation.

  • Patent number: 5228425
Abstract: An inductive discharge ignition system for an internal combustion engine uses two ignition transformers with their associated circuitry. One transformer is employed in a Kettering type high voltage system. The other transformer is used in a low voltage high current output system. The Kettering system initiates spark plug arcing. When the arc is established the lower voltage high current circuit increases the arcing since only lower voltage is needed to sustain or increase the arcing once arcing is established.

  • Patent number: 4757788
Abstract: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine has one electrode in the cylinder movable with respect to the other, under the control of an external solenoid, or other operable device. The solenoid or other device is actuated, and the current to the electrodes is derived from the collapsing field of an inductor. A diode inhibits other than discharge current of said inductor from flowing to said electrodes.

  • Patent number: 3931626
Abstract: A TV antenna having integrated UHF-VHF sections and designed to favorably respond to at least two widely spaced frequencies. The dipoles of the antenna are arranged in a staggered tuned array mounted on a pair of conductive cross-arms. The rearmost dipole is provided with a paddle-shaped dipole that can be adjusted for 1/2 wavelength response at the lower of the two frequencies by varying the perimeter of the paddle, and the higher frequency is tuned in by adjusting the 3/2 wavelength response by varying the length of the inboard conductor.
