  • Publication number: 20130100895
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments for Machine Type Communication (MTC). The techniques disclosed may reduce signaling by transmitting MTC data over control planes and avoiding a full cycle of connection procedures typically required for transmission. MTC data may be directly appended to a control plane message, in addition, in order to reduce the signaling load, a WTRU may autonomously release the connection without being told, by the network. Techniques may be used to indicate a network provider's machine type communication (MTC) capability. The MTC services or capabilities that may be provided by a respective network operator may be communicated to a WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20120281544
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for receiving data from multiple cells. A wireless transmit and receive unit (WTRU) may receive data from cells in a multi-point set that includes a primary serving cell and one or more assisting serving cells. The WTRU measures the quality of cells in the multipoint set as well as neighboring cells. Based on the cell quality, the WTRU triggers a reporting event, such cell adding event, cell removal event, or cell replacement event, and sends a measurement report to the network. The WTRU receives an indication of a change to the multi-point set from the network, and modifies the multi-point set accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20120207040
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for mitigating in-device interference are described. The methods may include an in-device interference event (e.g. an interference situation), and the processing of events may depend on the priority of the technologies. A handover to another frequency or radio access technology (RAT) may occur in case a co-existing technology may be activated. The network may signal to the device a list of frequencies or RATs that it may be allowed to measure and handoff to. A network may provide a scaling value that the device may use to speed up reaction to the interference. The device may apply a scaling factor to an “out of synch’ counter and/or the radio link failure (RLF) timer used for the RLF procedure. The device may apply different scaling factors for the measurements and time to trigger events. The device may trigger a report to the network requesting gaps for an alternate RAT.

  • Publication number: 20120040700
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for performing group-based machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. Machine-type communication (MTC) wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) may operate in M2M groups. A group of MTC WTRUs may be paged collectively as a group. An MTC WTRU may store an individual international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) associated with the MTC WTRU, and a group-based IMSI associated with the MTC group that the MTC WTRU belongs to. The MTC WTRU may use one or both IMSIs to receive paging messages. When the MTC WTRU receives a paging message, the MTC WTRU may compare a recipient IMSI contained in the paging message to the individual IMSI and the group-based IMSI. If the recipient IMSI matches the individual IMSI and the group-based IMSI, the MTC WTRU may proceed to process the paging message.

  • Publication number: 20110274040
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for optimizing Random Access Channel (RACH) transmissions from wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) for multiple transmissions. A WTRU may initiate uplink transmission for a random access procedure using a configured time resource such that the uplink resources may be time shared by a plurality of WTRUs. The transmission time may be calculated on an absolute or relative basis. A backoff time may be applied before starting the uplink transmission. The backoff time may be WTRU-specific, WTRU group-specific, specified per access class and may be determined based on a priority basis. A scaling factor may be applied to the backoff time. A contention free allocation method may be used to determine the appropriate resource. The data may be transmitted with and without a preamble. The WTRUs may include machine type communication devices and may be grouped in accordance with a number of factors or characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20110244806
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed herein for dynamically controlling channel monitoring in a multi-carrier environment. A UE may monitor one or more channels associated with active carriers. The monitoring by the UE may be established via a network pre-configuring the HS-SCCHs and/or specifying which HS-SCCHs the UE should monitor depending on which carriers are activate. Further, the network may pre-configure a list of HS-SCCHs for each carrier, and the UE may autonomously, following pre-determined rules, increase or decrease the number of HS-SCCHs it monitors on each carrier. In addition, the network may indicate in an HS-SCCH order which HS-SCCHs the UE should stop or start monitoring.

  • Publication number: 20070055862
Abstract: A method and system for distributing data to at least one communication device are disclosed. When multiple communication devices request the same data, a seeder sends a different piece of the data to each communication device and the communication devices share the piece of data each other by using a wireless connection established between them. The communication devices automatically suspend and resume downloading of the piece of the data from other communication devices as the communication device performs a handover. The receiver may be given super-distribution rights. When a destination communication device requests data, a content provider identifies a source communication device which possesses the same data and has the source communication device to forward the data to the destination communication device. The source communication device re-encrypts the data with a new encryption key and the destination communication device obtains a license from a rights issuer to decrypt the data.

  • Publication number: 20060265333
Abstract: A wireless mesh network with digital rights management (DRM) interoperability is disclosed. A first DRM-capable mesh point (MP) performs a discovery procedure for detecting neighbor MPs and identifies at least one other DRM-capable MP among the detected neighbor MPs. The first DRM-capable MP then performs an association procedure only with the DRM-capable MPs. The first DRM-capable MP assigns DRM roles to the associated DRM-capable MPs. A digital content is then distributed from the first DRM-capable MP to another DRM-capable MP via the mesh network. The DRM interoperability may be based on a networked environment for media orchestration (NEMO) architecture proposed by the Coral Consortium or any DRM interoperability architectures.
