  • Patent number: 8614263
Abstract: A non-biodegradable endodontic sealant composition comprises the reaction product of a first paste and a second paste. Either paste or both pastes include one or more of: unmodified HEMA and bioglass. The first paste includes a first polymerizing agent and the second paste includes a second polymerizing agent. A method for making the composition comprises preparing the first paste and second paste and combining the pastes under conditions to achieve a polymerization reaction initiated by a reaction between the polymerizing agents. The combining step is performed under conditions for achieving a setting time that is in a range of about 1 minute to about 1 hour. A method for treating humans having a voided region into which no re-growth will occur comprises administering the composition to the affected area, preferably to an area where tissue, tooth, or bone are not intended to re-grow.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 2010
Date of Patent: December 24, 2013
Assignee: The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania
Inventors: Francis K. Mante, Miri Kim, Syngcuk Kim

  • Publication number: 20020168611
Abstract: A dental tool for use with an ultrasonic transducer, includes a substantially elongate shaft having a proximal end with a coupling attachment at the proximal end for attachment to an ultrasonic handpiece or transducer, and a distal end having a tip configured as a cutting blade having an elongated substantially straight cutting edge, where, upon energization of the transducer, the cutting blade vibrates in a direction substantially coplanar to its cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4751072
Abstract: A method for reducing sensory nerve activity in a hypersensitive tooth and for desensitizing hypersensitive dentin involves applying to the surface of exposed dentin of a subject's tooth a potassium salt selected from the group consisting of potassium bicarbonate and potassium chloride in an amount effective to reduce sensory nerve activity and to desensitize hypersensitive dentin of hypersensitive teeth. In the presently preferred embodiment of the invention, potassium bicarbonate is the potassium salt and is applied in a formulation, for example, an aqueous solution containing from about 1.0 to about 360.0 mg of potassium bicarbonate per ml of solution.
