  • Patent number: 5981046
Abstract: A sound absorbing component contains a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin expanded body having a percentage of void being not less than 50 vol %, and a resin molded body. An air layer is provided between the fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin expanded body and the resin molded body. This sound absorbing component can effectively absorb the sound especially in the frequency region of 500 to 3000 Hz corresponding to the exterior noise problematic in automobiles, even if it is lightweight and thin.

  • Patent number: 5854149
Abstract: As a paper-made stampable sheet having a high rigidity and, if necessary, improved adhesiveness and non-permeability and a light weight stampable sheet shaped body made from this sheet and a method of producing the same, there are proposed a paper-made stampable sheet obtained by paper-making a mixture of thermoplastic resin and reinforcing fibers to obtain a sheet-like web, piling a thermoplastic resin film of a single layer or multi layer or an organic fiber nonwoven fabric having at least one excellent property selected from rigidity, non-permeability and adhesiveness on at least one-side surface of the sheet-like web in accordance with use purpose, compressing them under heating above a melting point of the thermoplastic resin constituting the web, cooling and solidifying at a compressed state as well as a light weight stampable sheet shaped body made from this sheet and a method of producing the same.

  • Patent number: 5843568
Abstract: A fiber-reinforced article includes an expanded core layer having opposing first and second surfaces with a thickness defined therebetween. The expanded core layer is formed from a composition comprising a thermoplastic material and fibers with average length of not less than about 1 mm, with at least a portion of the fibers being coated with the thermoplastic material. The fibers collectively define a network structure in which the fibers are interconnected with each other and fixed relative to each other via the thermoplastic material so that the coated fibers define interstitial voids therebetween. The article further includes first and second skin layers, the first skin layer having a surface integrally connected to the first surface of the expanded core layer and the second skin layer having a surface integrally connected to the second surface of the expanded core layer.

  • Patent number: 5759594
Abstract: A mold assembly for producing a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin molded article laminated with a skin material comprises: a first mold having a first cavity face; a second mold having an indentation whose bottom surface forms a second cavity face; a driving unit for reciprocating the mold connected thereto; and a cutting blade, attached to the first mold, having a cutting edge opposed to the second cavity face of the second mold, the cutting edge being relatively moved, at closing operation, along an inner peripheral side surface of the second mold with a predetermined clearance with respect to the inner peripheral side surface.

  • Patent number: 5154872
Abstract: A multilayer molded article includes a resin body and skin material with good quality and is produced by a process which includes the steps of: (a) supplying a skin material between a male mold and a female mold which are attached to a clamping mechanism, (b) starting closing of the male and female molds, and supplying a resin melt for the resin body between the skin material and the male or female mold while temporarily stopping the closing action of the mold or adjusting a closing rate at 30 mm/sec. or less when a cavity clearance between the molds is in the range between (C+100) mm and (C+5) mm (wherein C is the cavity clearance when the molding is finished), and (c) further closing the molds to the cavity clearance of C to finish the molding.

  • Patent number: 5053179
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for producing a multilayer molded article which includes supplying at least one piece of a skin material having a desired shape and a resin melt between unclosed upper and lower molds and closing the molds to form a multilayer molded article including the thermoplastic resin and the skin material which covers only a desired part of the article, wherein the resin melt is supplied at or near a center area of a rear face of the skin material, or wherein after the skin material is lifted to a position at which the skin material contacts a cavity surface of the upper mold by a vertically movable rod or bar which is positioned at a part of the lower mold on which the skin material is placed, the resin melt is supplied between the upper and lower molds and the rod or bar is returned to a determined position at least before the molding is completed.
