  • Patent number: 6023649
Abstract: The invention provides an anti-skid controller capable of correctly executing ABS control by accurately estimating a road surface .mu. without using additional sensors. Each wheel speed is detected, and acceleration of the vehicle body in a case where a wheel speed difference between front and rear wheels exceeds a specified value is determined. In this case, by using a change rate within a specified period of time with respect to a wheel speed of one in which wheel speed changing is small as the acceleration, a road surface .mu. corresponding to the acceleration is determined. Corrections regarding turning, bad road travelling, road surface changing, etc. can be carried out, by determining a lateral G based on a speed difference between left and right wheels.

  • Patent number: 5019984
Abstract: Sensors detect rotational speeds of respective vehicle wheels. A slip detection reference value is calculated from the detected rotational speeds of the vehicle wheels. Acceptable slip ranges for the respective vehicle wheels are determined in accordance with the calculated slip detection reference value. The rotational speeds of the vehicle wheels are compared with the corresponding acceptable slip ranges respectively. Slip controls of the respective vehicle wheels are performed when the rotational speeds of the vehicle wheels reside outside the corresponding acceptable slip ranges respectively. The highest of at least two of the rotational speeds of the vehicle wheels is selected. Differences between the respective rotational speeds of the vehicle wheels and the selected highest vehicle wheel rotational speed are calculated. The slip detection reference value is corrected in accordance with the respective calculated differences.

  • Patent number: 4969695
Abstract: In an apparatus for detecting the abnormality of a rotational speed sensor adapted for, for example, an anti-skid control system, a time period within which a subsequent pulse will be generated by the rotational speed sensor in response to the rotation of a body of revolution such as wheel is estimated on the basis of the latest pulse interval of the pulses previously generated therefrom and a value corresponding to the force of inertia of the wheel developed on the braking operation thereof. The determination of abnormality of the rotational speed sensor is made when the subsequent pulse is not produced within the estimated time period. This is arranged based on the fact that the pulse interval depends upon the inertial force of the wheel. With the above arrangement, the abnormality detection of the speed sensor can be quickly made, so that a fail-safe control in a braking system can be speedily performed in response to the occurrence of abnormality of the speed sensor.

  • Patent number: 4666218
Abstract: In an antiskid control system for the hydraulic braking system of a wheeled vehicle, the rotational speed of a vehicle wheel and the acceleration of the wheel are detected and levels of road surface friction are determined on the basis of the wheel speed and acceleration to give a first indication that the road has a high value of friction or a second indication that the road has a low value of friction. The wheel speed and acceleration are analyzed to detect a down-pressure mode to decrease the fluid pressure of the braking system and an up-pressure mode to increase the pressure. In response to the presence of the first indication, the down-pressure mode is effected at a lower rate and then at a higher rate. In response to the occurrence of the second indication, the down-pressure mode is effected at the higher rate.

  • Patent number: 4665490
Abstract: In an antiskid control system for a motor vehicle, the speed and acceleration of at least one vehicle wheel are detected, and from the detected wheel speed, the speed of the vehicle is estimated. First and second variable threshold values are derived from the vehicle speed. The wheel speed and acceleration are compared with the first and second thresholds, respectively, to estimate the level of road surface friction and to operate solenoid-operated hydraulic brake pressure decreasing means. The operating period of the pressure decreasing means is controlled in accordance with the estimated road surface friction to prevent excessive reduction of the brake pressure and premature locking of the wheels.

  • Patent number: 4651290
Abstract: A road surface condition discriminating system is disclosed, in which a vehicle speed signal produced from a vehicle speed sensor mounted on a part of the wheel system of an automobile running on a road is analyzed to decide the road surface conditions on the basis of the variations in the wheel revolutions. The system computes the acceleration from the derivative of the measured speed and then various actuating devices of the vehicle, such as, height control, shock absorber control, power steering control and skid control are controlled from the decision on the road condition.

  • Patent number: 4651281
Abstract: In an antiskid control system the speed of a vehicle wheel is compared with a variable threshold which is a function of the speed of the vehicle and a first comparator output is generated when the speed is lower than the variable reference. The acceleration of the wheel is compared with a predetermined threshold for generating a second comparator output when the acceleration is lower than the threshold or a third comparator output when the acceleration is higher than the threshold. The fluid pressure of the braking system is lowered in response to there being a simultaneous presence of the first and second comparator outputs and raised in response to there being a simultaneous presence of the first and third comparator outputs.

  • Patent number: 4566737
Abstract: In an antiskid control system, first and second wheel speed values are derived from pulse signals supplied from wheel speed sensors to indicate respectively the rotational speeds of first and second wheels of the vehicle. A trimming value is derived from the difference between the first and second wheel speed values and used as a multiplier by which the first wheel speed value is multiplied to compensate for the deviation of the speed of the first wheel with respect to the speed of the second wheel. The compensated first wheel speed value compared with a variable threshold that is a function of the speed of the vehicle to determine the down pressure timing.
