    Abstract: The higher .alpha.-olefin copolymers obtained in accordance with the present invention are copolymers derived from higher .alpha.-olefin and non-conjugated diene represented by the following general formula [I], and (a) the non-conjugated diene content thereof is from 0.01 to 30 mol %, and (b) the intrinsic viscosity [.eta.], as measured in decahydronaphthalene at 135.degree. C., of said copolymer is from 1.0 to 10.0 dl/g. ##STR1## The invention also provides a process for preparing such higher .alpha.-olefin copolymers as illustrated above, and vulcanization products obtained from said copolymers.Furthermore, the invention provides vulcanizable compositions containing rubber comprising of the above-mentioned higher .alpha.-olefin copolymers and a specific diene rubber or a specific ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer rubber.

The mole ratio of polymerized units from the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene to polymerized units from ethylene is from 3:97 to 95:5 and the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene is incorporated in the polymer chain as polymerized units without ring-opening.The copolymer is prepared by copolymerizing ethylene with the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene in a hydrocarbon medium in the presence of a catalyst formed from a vanadium compound and an organoaluminum compound which are soluble in the hydrocarbon medium.The copolymer has excellent transparency and a well balanced combination of heat resistance, heat aging resistance, chemical and solvent resistance, dielectric properties and mechanical properties such as rigidity.

C., and (E) g.sub..eta. * defined by a ratio of the intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] to an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.]l of a linear ethylene-propylene random copolymer having an ethylene content of 70 mole % and the same weight-average molecular weight determined by a light-scattering method as that of the copolymer rubber is 0.2 to 0.9. Also a process for preparing this random copolymer rubber and vulcanizate derived from the same are also disclosed.
