  • Publication number: 20160379620
Abstract: A method and system for attenuating noise comprises identifying a location in an area at which sound emitted from one or more speakers has acoustic characteristics that are substantially similar in measure to corresponding acoustic characteristics of the emitted sound at a location approximated to be near an ear of an occupant of the area. A microphone, which may be a virtual microphone, is disposed at the identified location. The microphone detects sound at the identified location. In response to the sound detected by the microphone, the one or more speakers emit a noise-canceling audio signal adapted to attenuate one or more frequencies in the sound detected by the microphone.

  • Publication number: 20160379618
Abstract: A method and system for a noise cancellation comprises an amplifier in communication with the three or more speakers disposed in an area. A system controller produces a driver signal for each of the speakers in response to a signal from at least one microphone detecting sound in the area and communicates the driver signals to the amplifier. The amplifier drives each speaker with the driver signal produced for that speaker. In response to the driver signals, the speakers emit sound that combined produces a substantially uniform sound pressure field for a particular zone within the area. The substantially uniform sound pressure field produced by the speakers has a magnitude and phase adapted to attenuate a noise field in the area corresponding to the sound detected by the at least one microphone.

  • Patent number: 9498646
Abstract: A collimator assembly for use with radiation therapy systems, in particular stereotactic radiosurgery (“SRS”) systems, is provided. In general, the collimator assembly includes a collimator in which a plurality of concentric, conical slits is formed. Each conical slit is oriented along a different slit angle, such that radiation impinging on the top surface of the collimator is redirected along each conical slit towards a common target isocenter located at a distance away from the bottom surface of the collimator. The conical slits can be referred to as “Compton slits” because they are designed to increase the radiation output at the isocenter of the collimator by redirecting Compton scattered radiation towards the isocenter in the target region. The collimator assembly thus improves the efficiency of a radiation treatment system by utilizing Compton scattered radiation that would otherwise be lost.

  • Publication number: 20160059037
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a radiation treatment plan using inverse planning objectives that are automatically determined based on patient data and the physical capabilities of the radiation treatment system are provided. In particular, the planned target volumes and organ-at-risk (OAR) volumes are used to automatically partition the OAR volumes into one or more avoidance volumes, for which particular inverse planning objectives are established based on the physical capabilities of the treatment system. As an example, an inverse planning objective may include establishing a particular dose gradient over one or more avoidance volumes. Because such inverse planning objectives are based on conditions and constraints of the treatment system physics, rather than a desired percentage of the prescribed dose, they may be referred to as “physical objectives.

  • Publication number: 20140281853
Abstract: The disclosure details the implementation of apparatuses, methods, and systems for a Composite Content Generator. The disclosure teaches a Composite Content Generator, which provides a straightforward, unified, and transparent interface that presents users with the ability to customize publication purchases. Buyers of content may desire to customize their purchases in order to acquire certain sections of a work (e.g., select chapters from a travel book, select recipes from a cook book, choose certain subjects out of reference or medical journals, and specific sections of a periodical). In one embodiment, the Composite Content Generator allows buyers to view, select, and purchase portions of various works (e.g., such as books, periodicals, reference materials, and/or the like) and receive fulfillment of their purchase as a customized and modular composite publication.

  • Publication number: 20060263757
Abstract: A system for managing critical student information is disclosed generally comprising storing information associated with individual students, such as important medical information or contact information for the student's parent or guardian, and providing different authorized users, such as school administrators, teachers, or coaches, permission to access the information and/or send messages for particular students. The stored information for each student is associated with one or more group identifiers, which identify particular groups of which the student is a member, such as a school or team, and each authorized user is likewise associated with one or more group identifiers, which identify the particular groups for which the user has access and can send messages.

  • Patent number: 5031376
Abstract: A construction block adapted to interact with other like blocks has a body substantially in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped having a first bearing face, a second bearing face opposite the first bearing face, two sides faces and two end faces. The first bearing face is provided, at one end thereof, with a transverse upstanding ridge, and the second bearing face is provided at the same end, with a transverse notch of less width than the ridge. When the blocks are assembled in courses to produce a retaining wall, the notch of the block of one course is adapted to nest with the inboard side of the ridge of a block in an adjacent course whereby the blocks of one course interact with the blocks of the adjacent course to resist pressure exerted by the earth or soil to be retained, and the resulting retaining wall slopes slightly from the vertical toward the earth or soil being retained. Preferably, the ridge is trapezoidal in cross section, and the notch is constituted by a bevel.
