    Abstract: The present invention relates to an image display system comprising a display panel (1) having at least one channel (35, 37, 39) comprising an ionizable gas mixture (55) including at least a basic gas and an additional gas. The walls of the channel are provided with electrodes (41, 43) for selectively ionizing the ionizable gas mixture during operation. The display system further comprises means for supplying additional gas to the ionizable gas mixture. The additional gas is a gas of the group formed by deuterium, hydrogen and deuterium hydrogen. The image display system is provided with temperature-stabilizing means for stabilizing the temperature of the means for supplying deuterium, hydrogen or deuterium hydrogen.
