  • Publication number: 20140263014
Abstract: A simplified portable water purification system provides an unfiltered water receiving compartment, a disposable filter cartridge, and a filtered water reservoir all in a single container. The container has a removable lid and is a vertically positioned, wide-mouth, tubular structure. The disposable filter cartridge is horizontally positioned centrally and divides the container into the two compartments. Contaminated and unfiltered water poured into the top receiving compartment of the container gravitates through filtering materials in the disposable filter cartridge. Filtering materials include a media stabilization plate having substantially vertical perforations therethrough for containing iodinated resin. An embodiment includes a vent system that allows backwashing of the filter element.

  • Publication number: 20050102896
Abstract: An agronomic system is disclosed for the commercial production of green Cicer beans wherein a relative risk of caramelization is determined based on geographical data, macro climate data, and micro climate data for a given locale. Relative risk of caramelization helps select acreage to be planted. Additionally, an agronomic system and method for cultivation and commercial production of the green Cicer bean is described herein for preferred row spacing and variety selections that are usable for the commercial production of the green Cicer bean. Prior to the present invention there were no agronomic methods or systems adapted for commercial production of the green Cicer bean. The agronomic systems and methods disclosed herein also help to adjust planting times based on growing degree day calculations for given parcels wherein harvesting of the green Cicer bean is in rhythm with processing plant capacity.

  • Publication number: 20050106298
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for processing podded vegetables including green Cicer beans. Green Cicer beans are commonly referred to as chickpeas and come in two varieties, Desi-type and Kabuli-type. The Kabuli-type of chickpeas are commonly referred to as garbanzo beans. Until the present invention, there was no commercial method or apparatus for post-harvest processing of green Cicer beans. The present invention can relate not only to post-harvest processing of green Cicer beans but any podded produce where there is a need to separate unwanted material from the green produce. Apparatuses and methods of the present invention permit secondary processing of podded vegetables to increase overall grower yield. Additionally, methods according to the present invention, disclose desired dwell times and blanching temperatures for the deactivation of enzymes that can damage green produce or render it unsaleable.

  • Patent number: 5237488
Abstract: An electrically conductive hinge provides for the transmission of electrical power and signals between a pivotally connected display unit and system unit of a portable computer and eliminates cable connections between the display unit and the system unit. Either the system unit, the display unit, or both units have a set of wipers which contact the conductive lines in the electrical track. The conductive lines are long enough to allow the display unit to be pivoted to and from its open and shut positions while the wipers remain in contact therewith. In one arrangement, the electrical track is manufactured on the hinge pin. In another arrangement, the electrical track is manufactured on a disk positioned at or near one end of the hinge pin.

  • Patent number: 4800018
Abstract: A simplified portable water purification system provides an unfiltered water receiving compartment, a disposable filter cartridge, and a filtered water reservoir all in a single container. The container has a removable lid and is a vertically positioned, wide-mouth, tubular structure. The disposable filter cartridge is horizontally positioned centrally and divides the container into the two compartments. Contaminated and unfiltered water poured into the top receiving compartment of the container gravitates through filtering materials in the disposable filter cartridge. Filtering materials comprising a top macro fabric filter, a core of silver impregnated granular activated carbon, and a bottom micro fabric filter remove contaminants and sediments from the water percolated through the disposable filter cartridge. The taste of the water is improved and possible odors are removed.

  • Patent number: 4175672
Abstract: A container structure generally in the form of a housing having at least one but preferably a plurality of compartments defining a primary compartment area and having movably attached thereto a plurality of closure elements disposed to regulate access to the interior of the compartments. A pivotal locking element has an elongated configuration and an outwardly extending tongue disposed for pivotal, locking engagement with a similarly dimensioned elongated groove formed on each of the closure elements to provide locking engagement therewith. A hinge structure is secured to allow pivotal movement of the one or more compartments out of the interior of the housing so as to provide access through the open top of the compartment independent of the cover elements.
