  • Patent number: 4360392
Abstract: A solder flux composition comprises a mixture of sarcosine and tartronic or tartaric acid dissolved in water and an aliphatic alcohol. Typically the acid-sarcosine weight ratio lies within the range 90:10 to 30:70 and the solution may contain between 5 and 20 weight percent of solids. The flux is employed for tin/lead soldering of a range of metals and alloys including copper, nickel and nickel-iron. Bidegradation of the flux is inhibited by the inclusion of lead carbonate, phenol or salicylic acid in the composition.

  • Patent number: 4317336
Abstract: An electron discharge tube evaporation cooling system in which part of a tube to be cooled is immersed in coolant in a boiler (15), the cooling system further comprising a condenser (18) for vapor generated in the boiler (15), and a coolant reservoir (11). The flow of vapor from the boiler (15) to the condenser (18) experiences resistance in the interconnecting pipe (17), producing in the boiler (15) a back pressure dependent on the dimensions of the pipe (17). In order that a desired level (40) of coolant in the boiler (15) can be obtained for a range of back pressures, the coolant is supplied to the boiler via an overflow system (16) having an adjustable overflow level. The overflow system (16) comprises a chamber (31) open to atmosphere at the top (34) and having at the bottom (33) an opening (36) through which an overflow tube (35) passes.

  • Patent number: 4261533
Abstract: Tilting the stabilizer at an extreme angle to the fuselage, with leading edge down, and controlling and varying engine thrust comprise a method for all-axis control of a generally conventional aircraft in ultra deep stall. The method is effective in recovery from unstable and unusual flight attributes and in landing emergencies; the aircraft may land in the ultra deep stall configuration or conventional flight may be resumed. So-called flying wing aircraft, where pitch control surfaces are incorporated with the trailing edge of the primary lift surface, are also controllable in ultra deep stall by the method of this invention.

  • Patent number: 4125818
Abstract: A charge-coupled analogue delay line has a plurality of analogue storage locations, and a gating means, which may include charge-coupled shift register, for enabling input to and output from each of the storage locations in turn. The storage locations are formed on a semiconducting substrate and each has a diffused zener diode to act as a source of minority carriers and a priming electrode for drawing off and holding a charge of minority carriers from the zener diode. A sample-holding electrode, upon receipt of a gating signal by a gating electrode, receives from the priming electrode and holds a charge of minority carriers of magnitude indicative of the magnitude of the signal to be stored. An output electrode is arranged to transfer the charge held by the sample-holding electrode to a diffused output channel.
