  • Patent number: 7137371
Abstract: A variable cam timing phaser for an internal combustion engine having at least one camshaft comprising a housing, a rotor, a spool valve, and a recirculation check valve. The housing and the rotor define at least one vane which separate chambers, advanced and retard. The spool valve comprises a spool having a plurality of lands mounted within a bore in the rotor. The spool is slidable from an advance position through a holding position to a retard position. The phaser also has an advance exhaust passage, a retard exhaust passage, and a return passage to route operating fluid to the chambers. The recirculation check valve is in the return passage and only allows flow of fluid from the advance chamber into the return passage when the spool is in the retard position and fluid from the retard chamber into the return passage when the spool is in the advance position.

  • Publication number: 20060072985
Abstract: An un-baling system for transforming substantially rectangular bales of farm product into smaller substantiality rectangular sized bales of farm products. The un-baling system incorporates a first rail mounted conveyor subsystem connected to a first rail mounted conveyor-thrasher subsystem. The first rail mounted conveyor-thrasher subsystem is connected to a platform conveyor subsystem in such a way as to enable the first rail mounted conveyor subsystem to convey the farm product to the first rail mounted conveyor-thrasher subsystem wherein the farm product is thrashed. The thrashed farm product is gravity fed onto the platform conveyor subsystem. The platform conveyor subsystem then feeds the thrashed farm product into the baling machine. A plurality of un-baling systems may be ganged together to further increase the volume of production in transforming large substantially rectangular bales of farm products into smaller substantiality rectangular sized bales of farm products.

  • Patent number: 6997150
Abstract: A variable camshaft timing phaser for an internal combustion engine having at least one camshaft comprising a plurality of vanes in chambers defined by a housing and a spool valve. The vanes define an advance and retard chamber. At least one of the vanes is cam torque actuated (CTA) and at least one of the other vanes is oil pressure actuated (OPA). The spool valve is coupled to the advance and retard chamber defined by the CTA vane and the advance chamber defined by the OPA vane. When the phaser is in the advance position, fluid is routed from the retard chamber defined by the OPA vane to the retard chamber defined the CTA vane. When the phaser is in the retard position fluid is routed from the retard chamber defined by the CTA vane to the advance chamber defined by the CTA vane.

  • Patent number: 6840202
Abstract: To reduce the noise caused by torsional reversals of a rotor hitting the phaser housing in a VCT cam timing system. A cam torque actuated phaser (phaser with check valves) the control loop is opened and rather then moving the spool valve to one end or the other end, the spool valve is moved just slightly off null. By doing this the oil ports in the spool passageways that control the motion of the phaser are restricted and the motion of the phaser is reduced. Therefore the noise of the phaser is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6661952
Abstract: A polarization sensitive filter includes a first sub-wavelength resonant grating structure (SWS) for receiving incident light, and a second SWS. The SWS are disposed relative to one another such that incident light which is transmitted by the first SWS passes through the second SWS. The filter has a polarization sensitive resonance, the polarization sensitive resonance substantially reflecting a first polarization component of incident light while substantially transmitting a second polarization component of the incident light, the polarization components being orthogonal to one another. A method for forming polarization filters includes the steps of forming first and second SWS, the first and second SWS disposed relative to one another such that a portion of incident light applied to the first SWS passes through the second SWS.

  • Patent number: 6634973
Abstract: A hydraulic rack-style tensioner includes two concentric pistons in the bore of a tensioner housing. The lower piston which occupies a generally lower position in the housing has conventional ratchet teeth on an outside surface. The ratchet teeth form a rack which are engaged by a pawl. An upper piston occupies a generally upper protruding position in the housing. A chamber is defined between the upper piston and the housing, or between the upper piston and lower piston. Pressurized fluid in the chamber between the upper and lower pistons act to cushion impact of the rack and pawl mechanism when high loads from an associated tensioner arm and chain cause the upper and the lower pistons to be forced back toward the tensioner housing.
