  • Patent number: 6977591
Abstract: A method for monitoring a state of a switch is disclosed. The method includes providing a high side driver circuit in communication with a voltage source, activating the high side driver circuit at a first predefined time interval, and sourcing voltage to a resistor in communication with the high side driver circuit at the first predefined time interval. Further, the method monitors the switch at the first predefined time interval, and determines the state of the switch, and deactivates the high side drive at a second predefined time interval.

  • Publication number: 20020166564
Abstract: A smoking article capable of delivering a regulated smoke composition to a smoker, includes a combustible filler wrapped in a combustible sheath and a filter unit designed to remove components from the smoke, disposed within the sheath. The filter unit includes a mass of porous silica or resin particles, where the porous silica or resin particles have an average particle size of from about 35 to about 400 &mgr;m and preferably an average porosity of from about 10 Å to about 1000 Å. The porous cigarette filter is self-compensating with respect to air ventilation.

  • Patent number: 6119699
Abstract: A smoking article capable of delivering a regulated smoke composition to a smoker, includes: a) a combustible filler wrapped in a combustible sheath; and b) at least one affinity chromatographic filter unit designed to preferentially remove specific targeted components from the smoke disposed within the sheath adjacent the combustible filler. The filter unit includes a mass of silica or resin particles having chemically bonded to their surfaces functional groups which exhibit preferential affinity for the targeted components and which reversibly bind the targeted components to elute components having a lower affinity than a previously bound component.

  • Patent number: 5597762
Abstract: A method of making a semiconductor material using a modified forced diffusion method includes the steps of placing the semiconductor material on a substrate in a vacuum vessel, locating an impurity atop the semiconductor material, creating a high voltage potential across the semiconductor material, heating the semiconductor material and bombarding the semiconductor material with photons under the effects of the high voltage and heat previously created. The process is particularly applicable to creating N-type diamond semiconductor material.

  • Patent number: 5356237
Abstract: A walk-aiding wheeled frame comprises base tubes, handle tubes, and fastening devices. The connecting portions of the base tube and the handle tube are polygonal in their cross sections. The base tube is provided with a locking slot. The fastening device comprises a pressing baffle capable of being driven to move by a wrench, and a hexagonal fastening tube provided with a locking baffle corresponding in location to the locking slot of the base tube. The handle tube and the base tube are fastened securely in an end-to-end manner by means of the pressing baffle, which is driven by the wrench to move inwards, and of the locking baffle. Such method of fastening the base tube and the handle tube ensures that the handle tube does not become loosely attached, thereby safeguarding the user of the walk-aiding wheeled frame.

  • Patent number: 4124121
Abstract: A document sorting system includes a concatenation of document receiving modules, each module having a plurality of pockets and being distinguishable from another module only by its position in the concatenation. A coding circuit is included in each module to generate a unique identifying code for each of the plurality of pockets in the module. The identifying code has a first binary portion based on the position of the module in the concatenation, and a second portion based on the position of the pocket in the module.

  • Patent number: 4005435
Abstract: A generator for producing droplets of liquid by subjecting a confined body of such liquid to varying pressures at a given frequency and causing such liquid to issue from a discharge orifice first as a continuous stream and thereafter to break up into a succession of separate droplets. A particular use of the generator is to produce a controlled stream of ink droplets for the purpose of forming printed characters on documents. It accomplishes this object by making use of acoustic and ultransonic vibrations in a body of ink contained in a cavity of tapering dimensions having an ink intake passage and a discharge orifice, and causing periodic variations (or varicosities) in the hydraulic pressure at the discharge orifice which in turn causes the issuing stream of ink to break up into uniformly spaced apart fine droplets of ink.
