  • Patent number: 6742803
Abstract: An automobile interior member which is represented by an instrument panel and to which an air bag device is to be assembled, is constituted by a main body portion and an air bag cover portion, the main body portion and the air bag cover portion being formed in a manner so that the main body portion is primarily molded (injection-molded) out of first thermoplastic resin material, and the air bag cover portion is secondarily molded (injection-molded) so as to be lapped with the main body portion on the back surface side. The second thermoplastic resin is oriented in a direction along a tear line (edges of rotational lid portions) of the lid portions (door portions) in the air bag cover portion so that the air bag cover portion is secondarily molded.

  • Patent number: 6416316
Abstract: An apparatus for molding a resin product having a bottom plate, a pair of side plates, and a pair of flanges. The side plates are formed integrally with the bottom plate to extend from opposite sides of the bottom plate. Each flange is formed integrally with the associated side plate to extend inward from an upper end of the side plate. The apparatus has a pair of inner slidable cores that shape an upper side of the bottom plate, an inner side of the side plate, and a lower side of the flange. The apparatus also includes an intermediate core located between the inner slidable cores for determining the position of each inner slidable core. The apparatus further includes a sliding mechanism that slides each inner slidable core to a position spaced from the resin product while moving the inner slidable core and the intermediate relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 6004498
Abstract: A resin part such as an instrument panel, a console box or door trim has a substrate body made of hard resin and a skin mounted on a surface of the substrate. To produce the resin part, a preformed elastic sheet is set within a mold cavity. Then, a molten resin is injected into the cavity through gates. The molten resin is first injected into the cavity through gates that are opposed to the skin and after the passage of a predetermined time, the resin is injected through gates that are not opposed to the skin, thereby forming a substrate that has the skin thermally fused to a surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 5804117
Abstract: A molded article has a resinous substrate body, and an elastic sheet material, at least partially fused thereto. For molding, the pre-formed elastic sheet material is oriented so as to be in contact with a setting face of an open mold. Further, a molten resin material is injected into a cavity defined within the closed mold via a gate so that the cavity is filled with the resin material. The gate has a substantially thin, rectangular shape in cross-section, and forms a rib integral with and projecting rearwardly from the molded resin substrate body. The integrally formed rib is molded from resin material left remaining in the gate after the molten resin material is injected into the cavity.
