    Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing image data produced by an electronic camera (such as image data read from a CCD device of an electronic camera) by over-sampling and then interpolating the data to convert the format and/or resolution of the data. The format of the image data may be converted to a format suitable for display on a computer monitor or the like. The invention enables the aspect ratio of a frame of image data output from a CCD device to be converted to 1:1. Preferably, the image data are filtered by a filter having a characteristic opposite to the frequency characteristic of the interpolation function, and then interpolated so that the interpolation can be carried out at a portion where the change of the frequency characteristic is small, thereby improving the image quality of the fully processed output image.

    Abstract: An electronic still camera wherein an image compression circuit can be simplified includes a lens system, a shutter, an image sensor and a processing circuit. A video signal for one frame outputted from the processing circuit in response to a shutter operation is written into a memory. A video signal read out from the memory is compressed in accordance with the JPEG system by an image compression circuit and then written into a memory card. The image sensor is constituted from an image pickup section and a product sum calculation section. A CMD image sensor capable of non-destructively reading out a picture signal is used as the image pickup section. The product sum calculation section performs DCT processing required for compression processing of the JPEG system. Since a detected image signal processed by DCT processing is obtained from the image sensor, DCT processing of the image compression circuit is unnecessary.

    Abstract: A synchronizing signal detector for detecting a received television synchronizing signal includes a synchronizing signal separator for separating the synchronizing signal from a received composite television signal. A phase-locked loop is provided, including an adjustable oscillator and a phase comparator for comparing the difference between the output of the synchronizing signal separator and the output of the local oscillator to produce an error signal. A sensor senses this error signal to indicate that the output of the synchronizing signal separator is, in fact, the synchronizing signal, when the error signal is of a predetermined value. In an AFT circuit, the error signal is used to control the tuning condition of the tuning section included in the television receiver. In one embodiment, the tuning section is an electronic tuner whose tuning condition is determined by a digital count.

    Abstract: An oscillator circuit is provided which employs a single active element. In particular, the circuit utilizes a novel four-terminal semiconductor device which is able to act as a transistor with three of its terminals and, in case of use as the transistor, has the emitter-grounded current amplification factor h.sub.FE controllable with a voltage at its fourth terminal. When the novel four-terminal semiconductor device is connected so as to operate as an emitter-grounded transistor, voltage changes at its output terminal, which corresponds to the collector of the transistor, is the same in phase as voltage changes at its fourth terminal. This fact is utilized in the present invention to cause oscillation by the generative feedback from the output terminal to the fourth terminal.
