    Abstract: During scanning bound originals such as a book, a bound portion of the book is often scanned into distorted image since the bound portion is lifted from a common scanning surface. As a result of the distorted image, the bound portion needs to be corrected before the scanned image data is further process. To correct the bound portion, a set of indexes is used to determine an amount of correction. The correction indexes include a page outline, a rule line and a character line of the scanned image data.
