  • Patent number: 7176237
Abstract: Novel tricyclic-bis-enone derivatives (TBEs) as well as the process for the preparation of such TBEs are provided. Also provided are methods for prevention and/or treatment of cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotropic lateral sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and all other diseases whose pathogenesis is believed to involve excessive production of either nitric oxide (NO) or prostaglandins or the overexpression of iNOS or COX-2 genes or gene products. Further, methods for the synthesis of the TBE compounds of the invention utilize cheap commercially available reagents and are highly cost effective and amenable to scale-up. Additional high efficiency synthetic methods that utilize novel intermediates as well as the synthesis of these intermediates are also provided. Furthermore, the invention also provides methods for designing novel and water-soluble TBEs.

  • Patent number: 7077546
Abstract: An illumination apparatus includes a reflector including a parabolic or ellipsoidal mirror, a light source arranged near a (first) focal point of the reflector, and a front mirror having a transparent window and a mirror surface symmetrical about the light axis. Luminous flux emitted from the light source is reflected from the reflector. In the case of the parabolic mirror, the front mirror has the same size as an entrance of an output light utilizing optical system, and the luminous flux exits toward the optical system as collimated light. In the case of the ellipsoidal mirror, the front mirror is arranged between two focal points of the ellipsoidal mirror, and the luminous flux is directed toward the second focal point. However, at least one part of the luminous flux is reflected from the front mirror and returned toward the first focal point.

  • Patent number: 6976788
Abstract: In a thrust bearing supporting a load in a thrust direction in a rotary portion, a size of a curved surface in the forward side of a lubricating groove with respect to a relative rotating direction of an opposing sliding member is set to be larger than a size of a curved surface in the rearward side of the lubricating groove with respect to the relative rotating direction, and a depth of the lubricating groove is set to be deeper than a starting point in the side of a groove bottom of the curved surface formed in the groove shoulder in the forward side of the lubricating groove with respect to the rotating direction, so that a lubricating effect and a cooling effect are increased.

  • Patent number: 6974801
Abstract: New triterpenoid derivatives with various substituents at the C-17 position of 2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oic acid (CDDO) were synthesized. Among them, 2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-onitrile (CNDDO), 1-(2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oyl) imidazole, 1-(2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oyl)-2-methylimidazole, 1-(2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oyl)-4-methylimidazole show extremely high inhibitory activity (IC50=0.01-1 pM level) against production of nitric oxide induced by interferon-? in mouse macrophages. These compounds can be used in the prevention or treatment of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory diseases. All the new triterpenoid derivatives are more potent than previously known CDDO.

  • Publication number: 20020026335
Abstract: A data security insurance system stores data in a server through a network of Internet, etc., transmits the data as necessary, reconstructs the data in a short time in case of the destruction of the data, and guarantees data security. When a client 4 contracts insurance of data security through a management server of an insurance company, the data is transmitted from the terminal device of the client 4 to a backup center 2 through Internet, and the data is stored for backup. With the configuration, the data of the client can be reconstructed soon even if the data is lost by the invasion of a virus or the destruction of a hard disk, etc.

  • Patent number: 6036568
Abstract: On the surface of an array substrate 60, a sealing material 64 is provided so as to surround a display region, and a plurality of spacers 66 are provided in the display region. The array substrate 60 and a counter substrate 62 are vacuum held to stages 20 and 18, respectively, so that the array substrate 60 and the counter substrate 62 face each other. In one of the stages, a recessed portion 26 facing the effective region of the counter substrate 62 is formed. By evacuating the recessed portion, the effective region of the counter substrate 62 is deflected so as to go away from the effective region of the array substrate 60. In this state, the peripheral portions of the array substrate 60 and the counter substrate 62 are panel aligned with each other via the sealing material 64. Subsequently, the counter substrate 62 is positioned with respect to the array substrate 60 by means of an X-Y-.theta. stage.
