  • Patent number: 5395562
Abstract: A sintered product based on mesocarbon microbeads is prepared by pressure-molding mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB) having an MSP (maximum solubility percent) value of 30 to 38% by volume whereby a body is formed, and sintering the body, wherein MSP represents the percentage volume reduction (volume %) determined by heating a given amount of an MCMB to 350.degree. C. under a pressure load of 10 kgf/cm.sup.2. The quality of a molded MCMB sintered product can be controlled by determining the percentage volume reduction (MSP) of an MCMB by heating it under a given pressure load in a predetermined space using the MSP value so found as an indicator.

  • Patent number: 4597856
Abstract: A process for fluidized catalytic cracking of heavy oils and production of hydrogen is described, comprising contacting steam and heavy oils with fluidized catalyst particles containing reduced iron at high temperatures, wherein a fluidized bed is formed such that the catalyst particles are fed from the bottom and withdrawn from the top of the fluidized bed and the fluidized bed is provided with a means for retarding the mixing rate of the catalyst particles in the vertical direction, to thereby generate a temperature difference between zones of the fluidized bed above and below said means, and use the upper zone for cracking of heavy oils and the lower zone for production of hydrogen. Catalyst particles withdrawn from the fluidized bed may be regenerated and recycled. Thus, light oils and hydrogen can be produced in high yields.

  • Patent number: 4568207
Abstract: An improved magnetic actuator mechanism suitable for dot printing mechanisms for use in a wire matrix dot printer. The present magnetic actuator mechanism comprises an armature movable between a reset position and an actuated position, a permanent magnet for attracting the armature toward the reset position, and an electromagnet which, when energized, generates in the armature a magnetic flux opposite to and larger than the magnetic flux generated therein by the permanent magnet. The armature is thus moved to the actuated position by the turn of the magnetization direction in the armature when the electromagnet is energized.

  • Patent number: 4433717
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bow type continuous casting process using a curved mold, wherein molten steel is continuously cast into the curved mold to obtain a curved strand, e.g. a slab, having a thickness of not less than 200 mm.The improvement of this invention resides in that the curved strand is straightened at a plurality of points at regions of the strand where the thickness of the solidified shell is not more than 60 mm. The obtained strand can be directly supplied to rolling without the necessity of removing the defects from the strand or without reheating the strand.

  • Patent number: 4391587
Abstract: In a slab heating furnace of walking beam- or pusher-type, particularly for the heating of steel prior to the hot working of the steel, skid beams are supported by water-cooled posts. In order to reduce the number of the water-cooled posts from that in the prior art, a post head having a trough shaped portion is stationarily located on each of the posts. The length of the post head is longer than the outer diameter of the post provided with said post head. The total withdrawal of heat from heated steel to all of the post heads is considerably small, because the number of posts is reduced from that of the prior art due to the structure of the post heads. The posts are preferably arranged in a zigzag pattern.
