Patent number: 7404683Abstract: In a printer, when a cover is closed, a paper issuing path, and a paper setting path are formed downstream from a cutter mechanism in a paper transport path. The paths are switched over by a movable guide. During a normal printing process, the movable guide is swung by its own weight to close the paper setting path, and guides a paper to the paper issuing path. By contrast, during a process of setting paper, the movable guide is swung by the rigidity of the paper itself toward the paper issuing path, whereby the paper is prevented from being deformed with respect to the cutter mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2005Date of Patent: July 29, 2008Assignee: Star Micronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasufumi Mochizuki, Osamu Mizuno, Tadashi Nonaka

Patent number: 7392731Abstract: In a force cutting type paper cutter, a movable blade includes a pair of right and left edges having a V shape. These right and left edges are intersected and brought into pressure contact with a linear cutting edge of a fixed blade. The movable blade also includes a pair of right and left elastic pieces formed by a lateral slit and a division slit provided in the movable blade. These elastic pieces are held in an inclined state to the side of the fixed blade and such that the edges overlap with each other. During a cutting stroke, the elastic pieces are held a state in which the edges of the movable blade always make point contact with the edge of the fixed blade and uneven abutment is prevented.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2005Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignee: Star Micronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tadashi Nonaka

Patent number: 6171001Abstract: Disclosed are printers capable of easy and precise head gap adjustment. In the printer, a cam mechanism 61 consisting of a fixed cam 62 and a rotatable cam 63 put between each end of a platen 10 and a swing frame 4. The platen 10 is normally biased to the swing frame 4 by a torsion coil spring 14. A driving gear 64 rotatably supported on the swing frame 4 is engaged with a driven gear 63a formed on the rotatable cam 63. The driving gear 64 is rotated by an operating tool 66 inserted from above, whereby the rotatable cam 63 is rotated by gear drive. In accordance with the rotation of the rotatable cam 63, the platen 10 vertically moves with the fixed cam 62, whereby head gap with respect to a printing head is adjusted. The driving gear 64 can be unrotatable by securing a screw 65 as a rotatable axis thereof by operation from above, whereby the platen 10 is secured.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1998Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: Star Micronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tadashi Nonaka

Patent number: 6109805Abstract: A recording apparatus includes an apparatus body and an open/close cover mounted on the apparatus body so that the open/close cover can pivot between an open position and a close position on a pivot. A roll of recording paper is rotatably supported by the open/close cover, recording paper therefrom being conveyed through a conveying path. A recording device records information on recording paper from the roll of recording paper. The open/close cover is provided with braking force applying structure for applying braking force to the roll of recording paper. The roll of recording paper is pivoted in unison with the open/close cover by an effect of the braking force applying structure when the open/close cover is pivoted toward the close position, whereby the roll of recording paper is moved in a direction for rewinding the recording paper which is pulled from the roll of recording paper.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1999Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: Star Micronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kazuyasu Ono, Hideo Kanbe, Tadashi Nonaka, Kanji Suzuki

Patent number: 5478161Abstract: The present invention relates to a paper discharge apparatus provided together with a printer for discharging printed matter such as a receipt or a ticket. The paper discharge apparatus stores paper then feeds it during printing, and discharges the paper upon completion of printing. It is possible to perform stable printing and discharge operations because a recipient does not touch the paper during printing. The paper discharge apparatus stops the discharge of the paper when an obstruction occurs, and it quickly restarts the discharge when the obstruction is removed.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1994Date of Patent: December 26, 1995Assignee: Star Micronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kanji Suzuki, Tadashi Nonaka
