Publication number: 20060083453Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to keeping a height of a pivot bearing low in order to build a thinner magnetic disk drive. In one embodiment, a ball bearing is provided between a shaft and a sleeve. An inner race of the ball bearing is secured to the shaft through bonding or the like. An outer race of the ball bearing is secured to the sleeve through bonding or the like. A bearing ball is placed between the inner race and the outer race of the ball bearing. A magnet is fitted to the outer race of the ball bearing. A magnet is mounted on a circular plate mounted on one end of the shaft. The magnet is located at a position opposing the magnet mounted on the outer race so as to generate a repulsive force therebetween.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2005Publication date: April 20, 2006Applicant: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventor: Tadashi Okumura

Patent number: 4590658Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the thickness of the wall of a tubular object includes a measurement of the intensity of a radiation beam passing through the walls and quantizing the indicated value of radiation detected by a detector with reference to a predetermined period of time. Data is expressed diagrammatically, and inflection points on the graph line indicating when the radiation beam contacts the outer and inner peripheral walls of the tube are determined and processed to thereby determine the wall thickness. There is also disclosed a method for aligning collimator members utilized in the radiation beam scanning equipment.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1983Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: Fuji Electric Company, Ltd.Inventors: Yutaka Funyu, Tadashi Okumura, Asao Monno, Masami Shimizu

Patent number: 4491731Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the thickness of a tube wall while the tube experiences motion relative to the apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus comprises means for generating a radiation beam and means for positioning the beam relative to a tube so that the beam sequentially passes along at least three selected beam paths. Each beam path passes through at least two distinct measuring points within the cross section of the tube wall. At least three measuring points are passed through by at least two different radiation beams. Beam intensity detection means are provided for detecting the intensity of the transmitted beam after it passes through the tube wall, and produces a detected value of the intensity, which is supplied to a processing means which determines the tube wall thickness based upon the detected value after it transmitted through the tube and the known intensity value of the beam before it is transmitted through the tube.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1981Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Assignees: Fuji Electric Co., Ltd., Kawasaki Steel CorporationInventors: Yutaka Funyu, Tadashi Okumura, Asao Monno, Masami Shimizu
