    Abstract: A method for truing a grinding wheel having a non-straight cylindrical grinding surface. In truing operation, a truing tool is caused to contact different portions of the grinding surface, and relative position of the truing tool is detected when the truing tool contacts the respective portions. Then, a first portion rom which a largest amount of abrasive layer must be removed, and a second portion from which a smallest amount of abrasive layer must be removed are found out. Based upon the detected positions, the radial location of an initial truing start position and a truing operation end position are calculated. The truing tool is initially moved to the initial truing start position, and then traversed from the truing start position along a locus corresponding to a desired final shape of the grinding wheel. The radial location of the truing start position is then shifted in a direction of approaching to the rotational axis of the grinding wheel, and the traverse movement is repeated.

    Abstract: A truing apparatus for an angle grinding wheel with two grinding surfaces is provided with an AE sensor for detecting the contact of a truing tool with each of the grinding surfaces. The truing tool is provided on a follow slide which is mounted on a traverse slide. As the traverse slide is moved in a first direction, the follow slide is moved following a template in a second direction extending across the first direction. In response to a truing command, at each of first and second traverse positions in the first direction, the truing tool is advanced relative to the follow slide until a contact signal is issued from the AE sensor upon contact of the truing tool with a corresponding one of first and second grinding surfaces. A position sensor detects first and second feed positions at which the truing tool contacts the two grinding surfaces. One of the feed positions which is shorter in distance from the follow slide is selected to determine a truing start position.

    Abstract: A numerical controller is provided wherein each time one data block of a numerical control program is transferred from a second buffer register to an active register, another data block successive thereto is transferred from a data storage device to a first buffer register and wherein a plunge infeed between a cylindrical workpiece and a grinding wheel of a grinding machine is effected in accordance with data block being stored in the active register. The numerical controller halts an automatic machining operation in response to a halt command of a data block in the active register. Compensation data is input during the halt of the automatic machining operation whereafter a restart command is input. The numerical controller modified feed command data of the numerical control program stored in the data storage device, based upon the compensation data.

    Abstract: A numerically controlled grinding machine provided with an angular type grinding wheel and a numerical controller for controlling the feed of grinding wheel based upon a control signal from a measuring head which measures the diameter of a cylindrical side of a workpiece. The grinding wheel is moved along an inclined path to grind the cylindrical side and a radially inner portion of the shoulder of the workpiece, simultaneously. In response to the control signal from the measuring head, the feeding of the grinding wheel is stopped. Then, the numerical controller detects the difference between a target position and a actual position of the grinding wheel along an axis of a work spindle. Further, the numerical controller compensates another target position to grind the radially outer portion of the shoulder for the difference. Thereafter, the grinding wheel is moved to the compensated target position so as to grind the radially outer portion of the shoulder.

    Abstract: A process for treating a waste liquid which is obtained from a fermentation process, e.g., an alcohol fermentation, and contains organic and inorganic substances which are useful as fertilizer, is provided which includes combusting a concentrate of the waste liquid and bringing the combustion products containing the ashes which are formed from the inorganic substances and the hot combustion gases into direct contact with a fresh portion of the waste liquid. Thereby the liquid is concentrated by evaporation and a slurry of the ashes in the concentrated waste liquid is formed. The slurry is separated into a solid sediment containing the minerals and a part of the organic components of the liquid and a concentrates mother liquid, at least a portion of which is combusted as the concentrate. By drying the sediment with agitation, a granulate which can be used as a fertilizer can be produced.

    Abstract: A tail stock for compensating for the tapering of a workpiece comprises a center sleeve slidably and rotatably mounted in a housing and provided with a bore with a predetermined eccentricity for holding a center. An arm is secured at one end thereof to the center sleeve. A cylindrical member is mounted in the housing, being slidable in a direction perpendicular to the sliding direction of the center sleeve, and abuttingly engaging one side surface of the other end of the arm. A feed screw shaft is rotatably mounted on the housing and threadedly engages the cylindrical member. A supporting member is slidably mounted in the housing in an opposite relation with the cylindrical member for supporting the other side surface of the other end of the arm and a spring member is provided to urge the supporting member toward the other end of the arm.
