    Abstract: Neplanocin A derivatives of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen or benzoyl, R.sub.3 is hydrogen or OR.sub.8, R.sub.5 is hydrogen or acetyl, R.sub.6 is hydrogen, acetyl or benzoyl, when R.sub.3 is hydrogen, R.sub.4 is hydrogen or halogen, hydroxy, acetoxy, acetylthio, amino or azide, and when R.sub.3 is OR.sub.8, R.sub.4 is hydrogen, R.sub.8 is hydrogen or acetyl, or R.sub.8 and R.sub.5 together form benzylidene, and at least one of R.sub.8, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 is other than hydrogen. The compounds of the present invention have inhibitory action for the growth of L 5178 Y cells and have the same or superior activity as neplanocin A, and hence are useful as antitumor agents.

    Abstract: Novel amine compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is lower alkyl and R.sub.2 is substituted methyl amino or D-amino acid residue, or a salt thereof. R.sub.1 can typically be isobutyl or methyl; and R.sub.2 can be methylamino of the formula--NH--CH.sub.2 --R.sub.3in which R.sub.3 is organic, more particularly methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, amyl, p-hydroxybenzyl, 3,4-di-hydroxybenzyl, 5-imidazolemethyl, 3-imidazolemethyl or phenyl. R.sub.2 can also be D-amino acid residue of the formula ##STR2## in which one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is carboxyl and the other is organic, more particularly methylthioethyl, isobutyl, methyl or phenyl, and C* is a D-asymmetric carbon atom. The compounds are useful in an assay method for leucine and aminopeptidase which comprises reacting a substrate amide as above, or a salt thereof, with a sample for leucine aminopeptidase assay, incubating the reaction product produced thereby, and measuring the thus-consumed oxygen or liberated hydrogen peroxide.

A 11725 is found to be capable of producing novel macrolide antibiotics A 11725 I, A 11725 II and A 11725 III. Novel antibiotics A 11725 Ia and A 11725 IIa are also found to be derived by chemical modification of the antibiotics A 11725 I and A 11725 II, respectively. All of these antibiotics or salts thereof exhibit excellent antibacterial and anti-mycoplasmal activities against various microorganisms such as Staphylococcus or Mycoplasma, and therefore useful for various purposes including medicaments.
