    Abstract: Aromatic secondary or tertiary amino compounds of the formula, ##STR1## wherein X is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a methoxygroup, and R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, are produced by reacting hydrogen and an aromatic nitro compound of the formula, ##STR2## wherein X is as defined above, with an alcohol of the formula,ROHwherein R is as defined above, in the presence of a catalyst of copper chromite.
