    Abstract: A thrust bearing of a scroll compressor to be used as a fluid compressor for a refrigeration or air conditioning unit, is designed to resist the moment exerted on the orbiting scroll member, and tending to tilt the orbiting scroll member, so as to prevent the clearance between a thrust surface and a surface of the orbiting scroll member slidingly supported thereon from being reduced or the surfaces from making local contact. The thrust bearing uses wedge shaped grooves having tip end portions in which fluid is compressed by the orbiting motion of the scroll member to generate dynamic pressure at one side of the compressor. This dynamic pressure maintains the clearance between the thrust surface and the surface of the orbiting scroll member thereby stabilizing the movement of the orbiting scroll member.

    Abstract: A sliding vane type rotary compressor has at least two suction ports through which a refrigerant is sucked into the vane chamber. A combination of a spring made of a shape memory alloy adapted to expand and contract when supplied with an electric current and a spool operative by the spring is disposed in a flow passage through which the source of the refrigerant is connected to one of the suction ports leading to a region of higher magnitude of compression. The flow passage is opened and closed by the spool which is moved by the expansion and contraction of the spring of the shape memory alloy in response to the heat produced by the self heat build-up action when supplied with an electric current and also to the cooling function of the refrigerant of low temperature, thus attaining a variable capacity control of the compressor with a simple and compact construction.

    Abstract: An electrostatic photocopying apparatus has a charger adjacent to a photosensitive body, a retaining means for retaining and supplying image forming particles to the photosensitive body, a particle supply means for supplying the particles to the retaining means, and a single-layer producing means for applying to the image forming particles forces which are not sufficient to remove from the photosensitive body the image forming particles adhered directly to the photosensitive body, but are sufficient to remove the image forming particles attached in the second or higher layer thereover. The image forming particles can be evenly spread in one layer on the photosensitive body. Even if the photosensitive body is carried at high speed, the spreading operation can be carried out correspondingly. In addition, the starting and stopping of the spreading of the image forming particles can be easily performed and the amount of the image forming particles used can be reduced.

    Abstract: A microwave oven is provided with a turntable for turning food and a radiation detection device for detecting radiation emitted from food without making contact with it so as to control its temperature. The radiation detecting device includes a radiation detector and a scanning reflecting mirror which linearly scans the turntable diametrically thereof and re-directs a beam of radiation through a chopper to the radiation detector. Because of the composition of the rotation of the turntable and the scanning movement of the reflecting mirror and of the chopper, a temperature at a very small spot on food may be detected so that regardless of the kind, shape and volume of food on the turntable, the temperature of food may be always detected with a higher degree of accuracy.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an improvement over a facsimile transmitter apparatus of the type in which a scanning system disposed within a transparent cylinder scans a subject copy wrapped around the cylinder, wherein one side edge of a subject copy wrapping belt is securely fixed to the outer surface of the cylinder in the axial direction thereof while the other side edge is securely fixed to a take-up roller after the belt having been wrapped therearound, the take-up roller being biased to resist the unrolling of the wrapping belt, and the transparent cylinder is rotated through in excess of 360.degree. from the initial position to the wrapping position where the subject copy is wrapped completely around the transparent cylinder and between the transparent cylinder and the wrapping belt, the cylinder being reversed in rotation to release and discharge the subject copy.
