  • Publication number: 20160177022
Abstract: A crosslinking component for electrocoat compositions is provided. The crosslinking component contains a blocked polyisocyanate. The blocked polyisocyanate includes at least three blocked isocyanate groups. A blocking agent for the blocked polyisocyanate contains from about 25 to about 75 mol % alcohols (A) comprising 4 carbon atoms or less, and from about 25 to about 75 mol % alcohols (B) comprising 5 carbon atoms or more and containing one or more ether groups. An electrocoat composition containing the crosslinking component and a process for forming a layer of an electrocoat composition on a surface of a substrate also are provided.

  • Patent number: 8236157
Abstract: A pigment dispersing resin is disclosed along with pigment dispersion, electrodepositable coating compositions using the pigment dispersing resin, and methods for applying the electrodepositable coating composition. The pigment dispersing resin consists essentially of the carboxylic acid salt of an aminated bisphenol epoxy resin and an alkoxylated styrenated phenol. Pigment dispersions made from the dispersing resin are especially useful for forming low or no volatile organic content electrocoating baths.

  • Patent number: 5324756
Abstract: A pigment dispersant that is useful in a cathodic electrocoating composition is prepared by bringing into contact the following compounds: a cyclic alkylene urea amine, a polyepoxide and a dialkanol amine; this pigment dispersant has an advantage of allowing for the high pigment to binder ratios and minimizes the volatile organic content (VOC) in the electrocoating composition.

  • Patent number: 5128393
Abstract: A pigment dispersant useful in cathodic electrocoat compositions is disclosed. The pigment dispersant is the reaction product of an organic monoepoxide or polyepoxide with a primary amine containing an imidazoline moiety. This pigment dispersant allows the maximazation of pigment to binder ratios and the minimization of volatile organic content (VOC) in electrocoat baths.

  • Patent number: 5116903
Abstract: A pigment dispersant that is useful in a cathodic electrocoating composition is prepared by bringing into contact compound (i), an alkylene carbonate, with a compound (ii) of the structure: ##STR1## where R is and alkyl group having 8-24 carbon atoms, and bringing the resulting reaction product of (i) and (ii) into contact with a half blocked organic diisocyanate; this pigment dispersant has an advantage of allowing for the maximization of pigment to binder ratios and the minimization of volatile organic content (VOC) in electrocoating compositions.
