Abstract: The production of a continuously advancing steel strip with a protective metal coating on only one face thereof by electrolytically depositing a thin primary coating of metal from an ionized metal salt bath onto said face, which is followed by a cleansing and drying thereof. Thereafter a predetermined quantity of coating metal in minute particulate form is deposited uniformly onto the coated face and is heated in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to fuse the particulate metal particles onto the thin primary coating followed by the sudden cooling thereof, while preventing the oxidation of the uncoated face during the fusing and cooling-off stages.
