  • Patent number: 6581432
Abstract: A device for upsetting a workpiece has a frame, a head for movement in a first direction toward the frame, and first and second tool holders between the frame and the head for holding dies for the upsetting. A parallelogram linkage mechanism supports the first tool holder on one of the frame and head for movement by the movement of the head in the first direction and in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction and toward the second tool holder for the upsetting. The parallelogram linkage mechanism has first and second pins respectively on the first tool holder and the one of the frame and head, and a link rotatably on the pins, one of the pins being eccentric in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 4646551
Abstract: An apparatus for forging crankshafts comprises a base which consists of beams 4 and cross-members 12 and 25. The head 3 of the device is designed for reciprocal movement in relation to the base. Between head 3 and parts 4 and 25 of the base there is a pair of movable, mutually coupled die holders 5 and 8, from which the top die holder 5 is led perpendicularly or at an oblique angle in relation to the head movement and the bottom die holder 8 is connected with the base by means of articulated connectors 6 and 7. Clamping die inserts 10 and 11 for gripping the forged material are fastened in die holders 5 and 8. The device is also equipped with a second pair of die holders 13, 12, 12a, 4d, which remain stationary and are fixed to the base during the working stroke of the press by means of a clamping mechanism 14 and 15. Die inserts 22 and 23 for forming crank webs and angle die inserts 17, 18 and 20 for setting crank webs at proper twist angles are mounted into the said stationary pair of die holders.

  • Patent number: 4438644
Abstract: The forging device is equipped with two upsetting-tool holders which are shaped as angular elements 7. They are installed between a head 1 and a base 11, are mounted slidably in a direction transverse to the head movement and are connected with the head by articulated connectors 6. The arms 7b of the angular elements 7 which are situated parallel to the head movement are equipped with upsetting tools 13. Between the upsetting tools 13 a gripper of the forged material is installed, which is composed of two jaws 2a, 2b. The arms 7a of the angular elements 7, which are transverse to the head movement, are mounted slidably with regard to the jaw 2a of the gripper in the direction transverse to the head movement. These arms 7a are pressed against the jaw 2a in the direction of the head movement and cause the clamping of the material between the jaws 2a, 2b. After the material has been clamped, the jaws 2a, 2b remain immobile during the whole metal forming process.

  • Patent number: 4272979
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for forging crank throws comprising upsetting a portion of a bar and directing the flowing material to form a preformed part having at the ends of the upset portion two upsets (27a) situated eccentrically to the axis of the bar. To form the ready forging a bending force is applied against the central portion of the preformed part, between the two eccentrical upsets (27a). The bending force is perpendicular to the upsetting force and is opposite to the crests of the eccentrical upsets. During forging operation the bar is fastened between segment dies (20,21) mounted in upper and lower die holders (7,18). The lower die holders (7) are supported by artitulated links (5,11) pivotably mounted to a fixed base. On this base a bending tool (23) is mounted. The upper die holders are slidably mounted to a head, which is fixed to a press ram. To the head an anvil (25) is fastened. This anvil has two working faces, which are interchangeable during the crank throw forging process.

  • Patent number: 4041755
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for forging single crank throw elements comprising upsetting a rough piece in a ring-segment compression die to form a blank having opposite shoulder portions with a narrowing connection portion, the connection portion narrowing from both shoulder portions to a central narrowest section. The blank is placed in a die with the shoulder portions resting against inclined surfaces of the die such that clear spaces are formed between the shoulder portions and the inclined surfaces. A force is applied against the narrowing connection portion in a direction perpendicular thereto to deform the narrowing connection portion in a direction to fill the clear spaces while concurrently upsetting forces are applied to the shoulder portions in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the force applied to the connection portion. The upsetting forces are applied by laterally driving die holder elements towards one another by an inclined wedged element which is driven by a press.
