Abstract: A method for updating a location in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting a request message to enter idle mode, receiving a response message including an Identifier (ID) of a first paging group and an ID of a second paging group in response to the request message, activating a paging group location update timer, when the MS leaves an area of the first paging group, and updating a location according to the paging group location update timer.

Abstract: An automatic repeat request (ARQ) method for use in a communication system is disclosed. The ARQ method constructs a first data block set including a plurality of data blocks using data received from an upper layer, and transmits the data blocks contained in the first data block set to a reception end. If a predetermined time elapses without receiving any acknowledgement (ACK) signal after transmitting a last data block among the plurality of data blocks, the ARQ method transmits at least one data block reconstructed by the data received from the upper layer to the reception end until receiving the acknowledgment (ACK) signal from the reception end.

Abstract: A data processing method and a data re-transmission method in a broadband wireless access system are disclosed. A transmitting side generates a coded block set including coded blocks of a predetermined number and the coded blocks are transmitted to first and second base stations. The transmitting side sets a timer after transmitting a last coded block of the coded blocks. The coded blocks received by the second base station are transmitted to the first base station, and the transmitting side receives a control signal indicating whether there is a transmission error from the first base station.

Abstract: A method for scheduling broadcast messages to transmit system information is disclosed. This method for scheduling broadcast messages having system information classifies a plurality of system information into one or more groups. For example, the system information may be control information for a network entry and initialization of a mobile station, or a burst profile. Then, the scheduling method allocates different numbers of transmission times to the individual groups, and determines transmission start times of system information of the individual groups according to the allocated transmission times.
