    Abstract: A plasma display panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate with discharge cells partitioned therebetween. First electrodes and second electrodes surround the discharge cells and are respectively disposed proximate to opposite ones of the first and second substrates. The first electrodes are connected to each other and the second electrodes are connected to each other in a first direction. Address electrodes are between and spaced apart from the first and second electrodes along the direction perpendicular to the planes of the first substrate and the second substrate, and are connected in a second direction crossing the first direction. The address electrodes also surround the discharge cells.

The plasma display panel includes a front substrate; a rear substrate arranged to face the front substrate, a dielectric layer arranged between the front and the rear substrates and at least a portion of the dielectric layer having a first color, plurality of barrier ribs arranged between the front and the rear substrates and at least a portion of the plurality of barrier ribs having a second color, plurality of light absorbing layers arranged between the front substrate and the plurality of barrier ribs, wherein the first and the second colors are subtractive-mixed with each other. The dielectric layer and the plurality of barrier ribs are colored with two complementary colors that essentially filter out nearly all light. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce outdoor daylight reflection and improve image contrast.

The plasma display panel has a front dielectric layer that attaches to the front portion. The front dielectric layer has colored dielectric layers made of a different material for each discharging spaces of red, green, and blue color and, colored dielectric layers being disposed corresponding to discharging spaces of red, green, and blue colors. Lattice dielectric layers are also formed to improve contrast. The colored and the lattice dielectric layers being fine pitch or high density patterned formed by a compression tool. The plasma display panel also has a rear substrate on which address electrodes are formed in a direction orthogonal to the sustain electrodes.
