The electrolyte includes a non-aqueous organic solvent, a lithium salt, and triphenyl phosphate. A lithium ion rechargeable battery including the electrolyte has improved overcharge stability and shows excellent chemical properties including reducing swelling, high-temperature storage stability, and cycle life characteristics.
