  • Publication number: 20120248330
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an ultraviolet sterilizer having a watertight function. The ultraviolet sterilizer includes a housing and an ultraviolet sterilization unit. The housing has an inlet through which ballast water is drawn into the housing, and an outlet through which the ballast water is discharged from the housing after the ballast water has been sterilized. The ultraviolet sterilization unit is provided in the housing and includes an ultraviolet lamp applying ultraviolet rays to the ballast water to sterilize the ballast water. The ultraviolet sterilizer further includes a cap which supports each of the opposite ends of the ultraviolet sterilization unit and is watertightly coupled to the housing. Thus, even if the ultraviolet sterilization unit is damaged, ballast water is prevented from being drawn into a reception space which contains external devices, and explosive gas which may cause the ultraviolet sterilizer to explode is also prevented from entering the cap.

  • Publication number: 20110303615
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a ballast water treatment system having a back-pressure formation unit and a control method thereof. Back pressure in a filtering unit is checked and formed during a back washing operation for a filter of a filtering unit, thus enabling efficient back washing operation. Both a method of physically filtering ballast water using the filter and a method of sterilizing ballast water using ultraviolet rays are used to treat ballast water, thus preventing secondary contamination due to byproducts, and preventing the contamination of a ballast tank. A flow rate of ballast water introduced into an ultraviolet treatment unit is controlled such that the efficiency of the ultraviolet treatment unit is not reduced, while back pressure is formed in the filtering unit, thus increasing the overall treatment efficiency of the ballast water treatment system. Further, the filtering unit or the ultraviolet treatment unit may be automatically washed.

  • Publication number: 20110303591
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a filtering apparatus for treating ballast water. The apparatus is constructed so that a housing cover plate and an exhaust unit are removably coupled to each other at an upper position of a housing. The exhaust unit includes a base flange on a portion thereof coupled to the housing cover plate and the base flange includes a projecting step that projects to be inserted into a core through hole formed in the housing cover plate. A core serving as a discharge passage of foreign substances includes a shaft coupling unit on a portion thereof coupled to the driving shaft, and is coupled at the shaft coupling unit to the driving shaft via a coupling means. The outer diameters of the coupling means and the shaft coupling unit are formed to be smaller than the outer diameter of the core.

  • Publication number: 20110303855
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an ultraviolet sterilizer having a vibration-proof function. The ultraviolet sterilizer includes an ultraviolet sterilization unit. The ultraviolet sterilization unit has an inlet through which ballast water is drawn thereinto, an outlet through which the ballast water is discharged therefrom, and an ultraviolet lamp located between the inlet and the outlet. The ultraviolet lamp applies ultraviolet rays to the ballast water. The ultraviolet sterilizer further includes a cap which supports each of the opposite ends of the ultraviolet sterilization unit, and a shock absorption unit which is elastically compressed at a first end thereof by the cap while a second end thereof compresses an end of the ultraviolet lamp. Thereby, even if the ultraviolet sterilization unit vibrates, the sleeve pipe or the ultraviolet lamp can be prevented from being damaged, and explosive gas which may cause the ultraviolet sterilizer to explode is also prevented from entering the cap.

  • Publication number: 20110226681
Abstract: A system for treatment of ballast water used in a ship includes a filtering unit which filters the ballast water taken into a ship; an ultraviolet treatment unit for sterilizing the ballast water filtered by the filtering unit by using ultraviolet rays; and a control unit for controlling the filtering unit and the ultraviolet treatment unit. The filtering unit includes a body having an inlet and an outlet, a filter for filtering the ballast water flowing along the inside of the body, an automatic washing unit for washing off foreign substances from the filter, and a pressure sensor for measuring pressures at the inlet and the outlet. The ultraviolet treatment unit includes a body having an inlet and an outlet, an ultraviolet lamp for irradiating ultraviolet rays to the ballast water flowing along the inside of the body, a sleeve washing unit, an ultraviolet intensity meter, and a temperature sensor.

  • Publication number: 20110100885
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a ballast water treatment device. The device includes a filtering unit filtering ballast water introduced into a ship using a filter, a vortex generating unit generating an artificial vortex in the ballast water filtered by the filtering unit, and an ultraviolet treatment unit having an ultraviolet lamp which sterilizes the ballast water discharged from the vortex generating unit using ultraviolet rays, thus preventing secondary contamination resulting from by-products, preventing a ballast tank from becoming contaminated, affording effective maintenance, and making it convenient to control. Further, an artificial vortex is formed in the ballast water when it is mixed, thus allowing a large quantity of ultraviolet rays to be radiated onto the ballast water passing through the ultraviolet treatment unit, therefore improving a sterilization effect.
