Abstract: Provided is a portable terminal providing environment adapted to a current situation and a method for operating the same. The method includes the steps of: collecting current situation information of the portable terminal; searching preset situation information classified as a same situation as the current situation information; extracting function information of the portable terminal corresponding to the searched preset situation information; and constituting a Graphic User Interface (GUI) according to the extracted function information.

Abstract: A portable terminal reflecting a user's environment and a method for operating the same are disclosed. The method includes: generating usage pattern information that contains pattern environment information of the portable terminal and function information corresponding to the pattern environment information; collecting current environment information of the portable terminal; searching for pattern environment information that substantially identical to the collected current environment information; extracting function information corresponding to the searched pattern environment information; and configuring a graphic user interface (GUI) based on the extracted function information.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and operational method may store or output log information related to usage histories according to at least one of a condition, location, and status indicated by situation information. The mobile terminal can be conveniently operated on the basis of past usage histories. The operation method for the mobile terminal includes: creating situation information on the basis of at least one of location information, status information and condition information of the mobile terminal; collecting log information related to usage histories of the mobile terminal from the time of situation information creation or within a preset time after situation information creation; linking the situation information with the log information and storing the linked information; and outputting, when new situation information equal to the stored situation information is created, log information linked to the stored situation information.

Abstract: In a time data display mode, a time data is displayed in at least one display block partially assigned to a touch screen of an electronic device. After the touch gesture or the drag gesture is detected in one of the display block, the current time data in the display block can be replaced with a new time data according to the touch gesture or the drag gesture. The new time data may be a following time data or a previous time data which can be determined according to a location of the touch gesture, or a direction and a distance of the drag gesture. In addition, the extent of a change in the time data may be determined according to duration of the touch gesture or a speed of the drag gesture.

Abstract: The present application relates to a display mode switching device and method for a portable electronic device. In particular, the present application relates to a portable electronic device that can switch display modes of an integrated display and input device to facilitate composition of a text message by switching between a portrait mode and a landscape mode. A portable electronic device may use a display mode switching method in which a posture of the portable electronic device can be checked, and a display mode can be selected based on the posture. A portrait-mode text messaging composition window with a portrait-mode key map and a landscape-mode text messaging composition window with a landscape-mode key map can be displayed in the selected display mode.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a user interface for a mobile terminal based on human relations are provided. The method includes creating a piece of log data corresponding to a communication event, calculating a level of intimacy between the user and a counterpart for a target duration using the log data and displaying human relations of the user on the basis of the intimacy level. A user item representing the user and a counterpart item representing the counterpart are displayed in a human relations network screen. Lower-level screens are allocated to provide summary and detailed information on the log data and to enable communication. A new user interface, which is based not on functions but on human relations, enables the user to readily identify a trend in human relations and levels of communication with other persons.

Abstract: Provided is a method and an apparatus of searching a hierarchically structured file in an information terminal. The method includes dividing a screen of the information terminal into at least two regions including a first region and a second region; displaying information about the location of a current file and at least one function icon in the first region of the screen, and files included in a current folder in the second region of the screen; and determining whether a key is pressed, and if so, performing a function corresponding to the key input. Therefore, a user can move to a desired location in the hierarchical file more rapidly and exactly, and thus a small-screen can be used more efficiently.

Abstract: Provided are a method and an apparatus for automatically changing time-setting mode in a portable terminal using a timer. The method for changing a mode in a portable terminal having a timer includes the steps of displaying a time-setting mode and setting the timer of at least one mode with a time period by selecting and time setting at least one mode in the time setting mode.

Abstract: An information bar displaying method in a mobile communication terminal is provided. Upon detection of activating of the mobile communication terminal, an information bar representing a user-preset initial information group is displayed on an idle mode screen. Upon detection of input of a first key for movement between information groups, another information group corresponding to the first key is displayed in the information bar. Upon detection of input of a second key for movement to a menu item, at least one menu item within the displayed information group is displayed in the information bar. Upon detection of input of a third key for information selection, a program corresponding to the third key is activated.
