A heating element is affixed to a bottom portion of the pot and can supply heat energy to a water bath inside the pot to facilitate the canning process. A display is provided with the base, the display having at least one input device and at least one output device. The user may select various manual and automatic modes of operation via the at least one input device to control the canning process. The at least one output device may provide the user with information related to the canning process.
