  • Patent number: 11588634
Abstract: A storage device includes a first memory to which data can be written a plurality of times and a second memory that includes storage elements for which electrical characteristics can be changed only once. The first memory storing first encryption key information and the second memory storing second encryption key information. A controller generated an encryption key using the first encryption key information and the second encryption key information in combination and then encrypts and decrypts data written or read from the first memory. When a host requests an encryption erase, the controller attempts to erase the first encryption key information from the first memory. If the requested erase fails, the controller erases the second encryption key information from the second nonvolatile memory.

  • Publication number: 20220045850
Abstract: A memory system includes a nonvolatile memory and a controller. In a case where first encrypted data obtained by encrypting first data with a first DEK is stored in the nonvolatile memory, in response to determining that second data received based on a first write request from a host is the same as the first data and a first user uses the host, the controller encrypts the first DEK with a first KEK associated with the first user to acquire a first encrypted DEK, and stores the first encrypted DEK.

  • Publication number: 20170038994
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a storage device, after transitioning to a read only mode, performs an authentication process of authenticating a user of the storage device once with respect to power on the storage device, and reads data from a first area according to a read request regardless of management information if the authentication process succeeds in user authentication. The read only mode is a mode in which reading data from the first area and a second area is allowed while writing data into the first and second areas is prohibited.

  • Publication number: 20140095822
Abstract: A removable mass storage device includes a controller and a memory storage area. A secured portion of the memory storage area may be a permanently write-protected portion. Programs provided by the operating system, e.g., application programming interface (API), for accessing the memory storage area cannot disable the write-protection of the permanently write-protected portion, preventing them from writing to the permanently write-protected portion. The controller does not enforce the write-protection against a security command of a secure library, allowing writing to the permanently write-protected portion using the security command. The security command may be issued by an API of the secure library. The secured portion of the memory storage area may also be a hidden portion that is not visible to the operating system, but is accessible by way of the secure library.

  • Patent number: 8413242
Abstract: After an initialization process (S10), the access controller of the external storage device performs authentication using a password (S20, S30). If authentication is successful, the successfully authenticated state is saved, and the host computer is notified that the HD storage portion is accessible (S40). Subsequently, it is decided whether SOF packets are being periodically sent from the host computer (S50), and if periodic sending has been interrupted (S50: NO), the connection to the host computer will be deemed lost, and the saved authenticated state will be deleted (S60).

  • Patent number: 8166317
Abstract: An electronic device has: an operation unit; a power supply unit; an input changeover switch; and a controller. The power supply unit is supplied commercial power and supplies the operating power to the operation unit. The input changeover switch switches between supplying or not supplying the commercial power to the power supply unit. The controller controls the input changeover switch. The controller includes: a power input portion; a control signal input portion; and a switching signal output portion. When the device power is being supplied from a master electronic device to the power input portion and the control signal from the master electronic device is received by the control signal input portion, the switching signal output portion outputs to the input changeover switch a signal instructing to switch and supply the commercial power to the power supply unit.

  • Patent number: 8145857
Abstract: The control device has a fetching unit, a virtual drive creation unit, and an access control unit. The fetching unit fetches, from the external storage device, attribute information relating to data stored in the external storage device. The virtual drive creation unit creates, in the control device, a virtual drive for storing the fetched attribute information. The access control unit controls access to the virtual drive and the external storage device. When an instruction relating to the attribute information is input, the access control unit accesses the virtual drive to fetch the attribute information. When an instruction to read the data from the external storage device is input, the access control unit accesses the external storage device to reads the data. When an instruction to write new data to the external storage device is input, the access control unit accesses the external storage device to write the new data.

  • Publication number: 20120072690
Abstract: A USB-SATA conversion circuit board of a memory device includes a data traffic counter that retains a data traffic transferred in accordance with a reading command within a certain time period. Subsequently, the data transfer is prohibited when it is determined that the data is transferred from the memory device to the host device at a speed faster than a data transfer speed requisite at the time of playing of a motion image based on a value retained by the data traffic counter.

  • Publication number: 20110295915
Abstract: In a file management apparatus, on detection of the user's file selecting action, a high-speed file processing execution program P2 gives an instruction to a cache driver D2 to read a selected target file from an external storage device and store the read target file into a cache memory CM. When a file processing operation for the selected target file is determined by the file processing program P1, the file processing program P1 gives an instruction to the cache driver D2 to write the target file, which is stored in the cache memory CM, in the memory location represented by a newly specified address in the external storage device. The file management apparatus effectively shortens the time required for executing a processing operation for a file stored in the external storage device.

  • Publication number: 20110197079
Abstract: In a peripheral device of the invention, a signal line monitor is activated to monitor the status of a signal line included in an external bus. In response to detection of signal absence on the signal line, the peripheral device stops power supply from the power supply device to a primary device. Power supply from the power supply device to the signal line monitor is maintained or stopped, in response to supply or stop of electric power via a power line included in the external bus. When there is no signal transmission via the external bus, power supply to the primary device is cut off. The cut-off of power supply via the power line in the external bus leads to the cut-off of even the power supply to the signal line monitor. This mechanism effectively reduces power consumption in the peripheral device connected with the external bus having the power line.

  • Publication number: 20110060877
Abstract: When a hard disk drive 200 is initially connected, the CPU 110 of a personal computer 100 assigns respective drive letters to a virtual CD-ROM drive area 222 and a hard disk drive 224 in the hard disk drive 200, and records information relating the drive letter assignments as drive letter information in the registry. The CPU 110 then executes auxiliary application software stored in the virtual CD-ROM drive area 222 to delete and disable assignment of a drive letter to the virtual CD-ROM drive area 222.
