  • Publication number: 20140056577
Abstract: A recording method for recording a base video stream and an enhancement video stream. The recording method includes: a first step of generating the base video stream by performing an irreversible conversion on an original image; and a second step of generating the enhancement video stream that includes a shift parameter and picture data. A gradation bit sequence of each pixel constituting the picture data of the enhancement video stream represents a difference between a gradation bit sequence of each pixel constituting picture data of the original image and a gradation bit sequence of each pixel constituting picture data of the base video stream. The shift parameter defines a shift operation that is performed by a playback device when the gradation bit sequence of the base video stream is added to the gradation bit sequence of the enhancement video stream.

  • Patent number: 8600212
Abstract: A left view graphics stream and a right view graphics stream recorded on a recording medium each include one or more display sets, and the display sets are data groups used for displaying one screen worth of one or more graphics objects. The one or more display sets included in the left view graphics stream are in one-to-one correspondence with the one or more display sets included in the right view graphics stream, and an identical playback time for the video stream on the playback time axis is set in each of the corresponding display sets. Each display set includes state information indicating whether the data is all data necessary for displaying one screen worth of one or more graphics objects, or is a difference from the immediately previous display set, and the state information included in corresponding display sets indicate identical content.

  • Publication number: 20130315573
Abstract: A data creation device performing compression encoding on first frame images showing a view from a first viewpoint and second frame images showing a view from a second viewpoint generates a stream in an MPEG-2 format, and base-view/dependent-view video streams in a format conforming to an MPEG-4 MVC format. The stream in the MPEG-2 format is generated by performing compression encoding on the first frame images. The base-view video stream is a stream of dummy data having the same number of frames as and a smaller data amount than the stream in the MPEG-2 format. The dependent-view video stream is obtained by performing compression encoding on each frame of the second frame images, with reference to a frame of the stream in the MPEG-2 format to be presented at the same time as a frame of the base-view video stream corresponding to the frame of the second frame images.

  • Publication number: 20130314514
Abstract: A state setting unit stores a parameter indicating the state of a display device. A packet analyzing unit refers to the parameter to receive a broadcast stream, and analyzes management packets contained in the broadcast stream. A decoding unit uses a result of the analyzing to extract packets constituting broadcast content from the broadcast stream and decode the packets into video frames. A display unit displays video images represented by the video frames. A 3D video image detecting unit uses a result of the analyzing to determine whether broadcast content to be displayed contains 3D video images or not. A transmitter unit transmits a notification signal to a pair of 3D glasses when the 3D video image detecting unit detects that the broadcast content contains 3D video images. A notifying unit operates to urge the viewer to use the pair of 3D glasses in response to the notification signal.

  • Patent number: 8593511
Abstract: A playback device for playing back a graphics stream in accordance with a stream selection table recorded on the recording medium. A procedure means determines a playback type of a graphics corresponding to the current stream number, based on the playback capability indicated by the capability register. The playback of graphics streams falls into two types, one of which is a first playback type in which a monoscopic graphics stream is used and the other is a second playback type in which a pair of left-eye graphics stream and right-eye graphics stream is used to perform a stereoscopic playback. The capability register indicates whether or not a capability to perform the stereoscopic playback by using the pair of left-eye graphics stream and right-eye graphics stream is present in the graphics decoder.

  • Patent number: 8538234
Abstract: A device for displaying stereoscopic video images on a screen includes a receiving unit, signal processing unit, and display unit. The receiving unit receives stream data including left-view frames and right-view frames of stereoscopic images. The signal processing unit alternately extracts left-view frames and right-view frames from the stream data. Over one frame period of the stereoscopic video images, the signal processing transmits a pair of a left-view frame and a right-view frame when the control information indicates a 3D playback mode, and transmits only a left-view frame when the control information indicates a 2D playback mode. The display unit displays each frame transmitted from the signal processing unit for a predetermined time on the screen.

  • Patent number: 8520056
Abstract: A recording medium records a main-view stream, a sub-view stream, and management information. The management information includes a system rate for each stream, and each stream is divided into a plurality of data blocks that form a plurality of extent blocks. In each extent block, main-view data blocks and sub-view data blocks are in a continuous interleaved arrangement. A main-view data block and sub-view data block forming a single pair each have a maximum size that is determined by the following conditions: (i) the system rate of the sub-view stream, (ii) whether the pair is the top pair within the extent block, and (iii) whether a long jump region exists between the recording areas of two extent blocks that are to be read continuously.

  • Patent number: 8467664
Abstract: A pair of main-view and sub-view video streams and a graphics stream are recorded on a BD-ROM disc. Metadata is provided in each GOP in the sub-view video stream. The metadata includes offset information. The offset information specifies offset control for a plurality of pictures constituting a GOP. Offset control is to provide a left offset and right offset for the horizontal coordinates in a graphics plane to generate a pair of graphics planes, and to combine them separately with main-view and sub-view video planes. The sub-view video stream is packetized and multiplexed in a transport stream. A header of each TS packet includes a TS priority flag. TS packets containing the metadata have a different value of TS priority flag from TS packets containing sub-view pictures.
