  • Patent number: 8263175
Abstract: A color organic EL display includes: a substrate; a color filter layer disposed on the substrate; a gas barrier layer disposed on the color filter layer; and an organic EL structural body disposed on the gas barrier layer. The substrate and the color filter layer provide an underlayer of the gas barrier layer. The underlayer is a degassed underlayer. The gas barrier layer is provided by an atomic layer deposition method at a temperature equal to or lower than a decomposition starting temperature of the color filter layer.

  • Patent number: 8035299
Abstract: An organic EL display includes an organic material, a gas barrier layer on the member, and an organic EL unit on the gas barrier layer. The gas barrier layer comprises AlxTiyOz, wherein Al represents aluminum, Ti represents titanium, O represents oxygen, x represents the ratio of atoms of Al, y represents the ratio of atoms of Ti, and z represents the ratio of atoms of O. A Ti-atom ratio of the gas barrier layer is given in the units of atom % and defined by the following equation: Ti-atom ratio={y/(x+y)}·100. The gas barrier layer has a first portion at an interface with the member and a second portion at an interface with the organic EL unit. The Ti-atom ratio of the first portion is 0 atom %. The Ti-atom ratio of the second portion is greater than or equal to 10 atom %.

  • Patent number: 6429837
Abstract: A method is provided for driving a luminescent display which includes a plurality of luminescent units adapted to be selected for light emission, so as to display an image. This method is characterized in that during a predetermined period, a reverse voltage having a direction opposite to that of a voltage to be applied for light emission of a luminescent unit, is applied to each luminescent unit.

  • Patent number: 6222315
Abstract: A luminescent display panel includes a substrate (106), a plurality of first electrodes (102) formed on the substrate (106), and a plurality of insulating films (109) formed on the substrate (106) to cover edge portions of each first electrode (102) and having the central portion thereof exposed. A luminescent layer (103) is formed on exposed portions of the first electrodes (102) and on the insulating films (109), and a plurality of second electrodes (101) are formed on the luminescent layer (103). Each of the plurality of insulating films (109) has a thickness which becomes gradually smaller toward a center line of each adjacent first electrode (102).

  • Patent number: 5962970
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an organic EL display panel includes; forming first display electrodes corresponding to emitting portions and bonding pads arranged at a periphery of an image-region as a patterning step; forming electrically insulative ramparts for exposing at least portions of the first display electrodes and protruding from the substrate as a rampart formation step, the each electrically insulative rampart having an overhanging portion projecting in a direction parallel to the substrate preferably at an upper and further having extensions each extending between the adjacent bonding pads to isolate the adjacent bonding pads each other and define a bonding-region between the adjacent extensions on each the bonding pad; depositing organic electroluminescent media onto exposed portions of the first display electrodes respectively, thereby forming organic function layers each including at least one organic electroluminescent medium on the first display electrodes; and forming second display electrodes
